Your favourite shop bought jam

OMGitsnotgood · 18/08/2025 08:46

Visited a friend at the weekend who made gorgeous scones, served with the most delicious Bonne Maman strawberry and wild strawberry conserve, the tastiest jam I’ve had in a long time. . We don’t have jam often so when we do, I am happy to pay a bit more, and will be buying some.

Got me wondering what other little gems are out there. I know home made is usually best and I do sometimes make / buy at artisan markets but am thinking brands readily available in supermarkets.

What are your favourites? We have most supermarkets nearby, but no Booths.

Thanks

I'm diabetic so get the St Dalfour but it's still very high sugar and good for the odd treat! We also like the Duchy Organics range from Waitrose, the blackcurrant is epic.

CalzoneOnLegs · 18/08/2025 20:38

Would it be nutritionally lacking to eat nothing but toast, scones, crumpets and muffins with conserves/peanut butter ?

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 18/08/2025 20:38

Bonne Maman Raspberry (I don;t like thick bits of strawberry ) it is smoother if you get round the seeds .
750g jars from Costco , I keep the jars to store sugar/flour etc in the kitchen cupboard

CalzoneOnLegs · 18/08/2025 20:40

@70isaLimitNotaTarget i feel so bad throwing those cute gingham lids in the recycle bin and i love the little paper seal with the fruit print on

Old Tawny Marmalade from Tiptree (these days just called ‘Tawny’ for some reason) is the absolutely far and away best one. I absolutely love it. It’s amazing on fresh bread or toast. And a cooked breakfast isn’t anything without it.

I agree that the lower sugar Maribel jams from Lidl are good. Most shop bought jams of any flavour are way too sweet.

I’m going to disagree with a lot of posters and say that every single shop bought strawberry jam is crap these days. Pretty sure I used to like it years ago. I think I’ve learned now that strawberries are a fragile fruit in terms of keeping their flavour when cooked. So for me it has to be home made to taste nice and that’s hard to find. I have the Little Scarlet and I wasn’t impressed with that over any other shop strawberry jam. Same with Bonne Maman. So I don’t feel it’s about trying to find more and more expensive versions. There’s just an overboiled almost ketchupy flavour to shop bought strawberry jam that I really dislike.

Bonne Maman, current favourites are fig and strawberry & rhubarb.
Sainsbury’s 3 fruit Marmelade.

Florencesndzebedee · 18/08/2025 22:53

There is a lovely one I travel to London to a French deli for - it’s a fig jam but I can’t remember the name of it. It’s £7 a jar but I love it.

TheCurious0range · 18/08/2025 22:58

Tiptree, it's local to us and my mum loves the café. Current favourite passion fruit curd (not technically jam I know) , actual jam tiptree morello cherry. Tiptree is in most of the supermarkets here is that the case everywhere or just because I'm in Essex?

I never thought of myself as a jam pusher before, but the Bonne Maman advent calendar is so good! They're so dinky that you aren't overwhelmed with jam and as a single person it's lovely not having to commit to one flavour of jam for a hundred years.
Plus it makes me laugh. Oooh I wonder what's behind today's door......? More jam!

Thanks for mentioning this. I was very close to buying it last year and didn't so this year it's a must!

Bjorkdidit · 19/08/2025 04:46

Well it was me who first mentioned the advent calendar so seeing as I seem to have caused a sales spike amongst Mumsnetters I think I deserve to get a big discount when I order my calendar. Grin

I might contact them and tell them I'm a jam influencer and see what they offer.

Or not as it would likely commit me to posting daily videos in December dragging out the opening of each door and reviewing all the different flavours into a tedious and overly long performance. And yes, I do know there will be several people already doing this and surprisingly it will be far from the most pointless and boring thing on the internet.

Mövenpick is delicious but very hard to find in this country sadly (I used to treat myself to it when I lived in Germany). In UK supermarkets I like Bonne Maman.

Both Aldi and Lidl also do a high fruit jam that's worth trying as it's much cheaper than BM.

I don't really eat jam (well I would but I have no off switch for lovely white toast with butter and jam which is no good as a post menopausal woman who's trying to lose weight and be healthier so we generally don't have jam in the house) but I really covet the Bonne Maman advent calendar, with loads of different interesting jam flavours, which sadly you probably can't buy in the shops.

www.bonnemaman.co.uk/advent

We had this last year for the first time and it was bloody fabulous!

I am like you and need to stay away as I can’t enjoy buttered white toast in moderation but the whole family enjoyed this advent calendar way more than the usual suspects, some really interesting jams. Haven’t seen large versions of many of them in the shops though unfortunately

Timespentwithcatsisneverwasted · 19/08/2025 07:25

Bonne Maman or St. Dalfour..

julietteoubliette · 19/08/2025 07:26

BM Wild Blueberry is my fave. I have it on toast with peanut butter

CherryRipe1 · 19/08/2025 11:49

Bodrum Turkish sour cherry jam. Heavenly on Greek yogurt, whole cherries. Polish jams are fab too. Frank Coopers marmalade. Aldi bitter orange Seville marmalade.

AllPlayedOut · 19/08/2025 12:06

Probably no good to the OP but Wild and Fruitful’s blueberry and lemon jam is amazing. They’re based in Cumbria and they sell their products online too. I discovered them when in The Lake District 2 years ago.

https://wildandfruitful.co.uk/ I’m not affiliated with them. I just really love that jam. Blueberry jam is even better with some lemon imo.

CallMeBettyBoop · 19/08/2025 19:01

This thread has FORCED me to order 2 x BM Advent Calendars … one for me and one for my DD. Can’t wait!!! 😛

user1476613140 · 19/08/2025 19:11

Lidl Maribel raspberry jam.

The BEST.

Ohwhatfuckeryitistoride · 19/08/2025 21:05

That BM jam is dhs favourite, i like their damson . I bought some of their fig jam and another strawberry and berry jam too. Other than that, lidl cherry. Big whole cherries-i could eat it with a spoon.

Bonjamin · 19/08/2025 21:10

Bonne Maman Fig Conserve is an under-appreciated gem - delicious on a warm croissant.

PinkArt · 19/08/2025 22:35

Ah crap, having helped push the jamvent calendar, now I need to order this years before everyone else gets in first!

bumblebramble · 23/08/2025 12:53

I love the Folláin nothing but fruit jams raspberry is my go-to for scones, but they have some really gorgeous combinations of flavours.

TellMeItsNotTrue · 23/08/2025 15:47

CalzoneOnLegs · 18/08/2025 19:51

I’m going to order myself enough goods to avoid postage they have so much more online than you ever see in the shops I didn’t know they did peanut butter ❤️🥜

im assuming as it’s end of summer they have the Little Scarlet now. They grow them at their own farm, possibly a bumper crop this year due to the sun 🍓❤️🍓❤️

Edited

I'm intrigued, how does the little Scarlett jam compare to their normal strawberry?

Tiptree are the best by miles, wondering if it's worth paying the extra for this rather than the normal strawberry?

muddyford · 23/08/2025 15:50

Lidl black cherry with sloe.
Loganberry but can't remember the maker. May be Tiptree.
Blackcurrant or damson or gooseberry by my late grandmother.
