Your favourite shop bought jam

OMGitsnotgood · 18/08/2025 08:46

Visited a friend at the weekend who made gorgeous scones, served with the most delicious Bonne Maman strawberry and wild strawberry conserve, the tastiest jam I’ve had in a long time. . We don’t have jam often so when we do, I am happy to pay a bit more, and will be buying some.

Got me wondering what other little gems are out there. I know home made is usually best and I do sometimes make / buy at artisan markets but am thinking brands readily available in supermarkets.

What are your favourites? We have most supermarkets nearby, but no Booths.

Thanks

St Dalfour pear is lovely

Icantfindanewname · 18/08/2025 15:40

Krakus (can you still get it?) raspberry - almost as good as my dad's home made 😋

bumbaloo · 18/08/2025 15:42

BM is nice but a little sweet. St Dalfour is not as sickly but the texture is not as nice as BM.

if I could find one with the texture of BM but flavour of St D I’d be in heaven

Bonne Maman blackcurrant is my favourite.

The black cherry is lovely, I know my mum always bought this as she was diabetic and I beleive it’s made with juice rather than sugar to sweeten it ? The jars and lids are adorable too

i expect they are all lovely ❤️

French products are usually superior to British! It's worth paying more for them.

Tiptree for me, can't beat it

I had Bonne maman a few weeks ago at my parents, and couldn't believe how thin it is now, could virtually pour it on to the toast!

It used to be premium, but now I'd prefer supermarket basic range rather than that watery rubbish

ACatAsleepInYourHat · 18/08/2025 16:00

All Bonne Maman jams are lovely, and I’ve a particular soft spot for the wild blueberry. As a previous poster rightly said, it’s the bomb. The fig is great as well, if you can find it.
Tesco used to sell a really nice Finest greengage jam pre-Covid, and I live in hope of it being reintroduced.

Both Aldi and Lidl also do a high fruit jam that's worth trying as it's much cheaper than BM.

I don't really eat jam (well I would but I have no off switch for lovely white toast with butter and jam which is no good as a post menopausal woman who's trying to lose weight and be healthier so we generally don't have jam in the house) but I really covet the Bonne Maman advent calendar, with loads of different interesting jam flavours, which sadly you probably can't buy in the shops.

Oh. My. Word!

ordering right now!!

Tiptree. I always smuggle a few into my bag when we stay at nice hotels which serve the mini ones with breakfast. And then take them with us when we stay at Airbnbs / self-catering places. I wish they sold them in supermarkets!

CalzoneOnLegs · 18/08/2025 16:40

@Starlight1984 i know I’m a bit strange 🤣 but I love watching food production videos and there’s a lovely Tiptree Wilkin one where they are making the marmalade as well as the limited edition Little Scarlet Jam and Christmas Puddings, it’s a company with a lovely history too and they have a tea room at the production site and a shop. 🍰🍓🍊

Sgtmajormummy · 18/08/2025 16:41

If you come to Italy basically every supermarket sells this stuff.

https://www.rigonidiasiago.it/prodotti-fiordifrutta/

Its high fruit, low sugar (concentrated grape juice) and has some unusual flavours like Wild Strawberry. And they make a more natural Nutella spread…
My favourite is Raspberry, used like coulis over ice cream or in plain yoghurt.
€3+ per jar, though.
Maybe a good business opportunity to import it to the UK?

Since I learned how to make my own lemon curd in 3 minutes in the microwave (Nancy Birtwhistle) I’ve given up buying the commercial stuff. Tiptree IIRC.

Bonne maman strawberry 🍓 jam! Yum 😋

Cinaferna · 18/08/2025 16:43

St Dalfour raspberry
Bonne Maman strawberry
Frank Coopers Thick Cut Marmalade are the best. I have jam once every few months so it has to be worth eating.

CalzoneOnLegs · 18/08/2025 16:52

@Sgtmajormummy that looks good. Aldi had passion fruit and blackcurrant curds in recently but sadly hasn’t been in stock for a while 😢

Crazycatlady202020 · 18/08/2025 16:58

Tiptree seedless raspberry

Mrsmunchofmunchington · 18/08/2025 16:58

Tiptree little scarlet but I haven’t found any for ages.

Tiptree strawberry and Tiptree bramble jelly are my other favourites

CalzoneOnLegs · 18/08/2025 17:01

@Mrsmunchofmunchington Little Scarlet is seasonal or depends on the crops or something (I saw this on the film!) makes it a limited edition, you just need to look on their website or maybe you can pre order? I would love to try it.

Thank you!
I will stock up.

DistractMe · 18/08/2025 17:04

Tiptree is the only jam allowed in the Distracted house.

SpottyAardvark · 18/08/2025 17:25

My absolute favourite is Frank Cooper’s vintage marmalade. I love the almost savoury bitterness balancing the sugar.

I also like Lildl’s own brand conserve. It’s as good as Bonne Maman & half the price. Raspberry for me, please.

ExcellentDesign · 18/08/2025 17:37

Are the Lidl ones made with proper sugar now? I bought some years ago and it was glucose-fructose syrup instead so I never bought it there again.

Bonne Maman raspberry for me. I may have just ordered the Advent Calendar Grin

Sugar
Apricots (50%)
Citric acid
Pectin.
