For me it has to be raisins or sultanas in savoury dishes or any containing a sauce.

Raisins in flapjack - Yes, please.
Raisins in apple crumble or fruit stew - No thanks
Raisins in curry or morrocan stew - Absolutely not.

Another one is banana milkshake or banana custard.
Banana with rice cakes or on its own before a run - Yes.
Banana in banana cake - definitely Yes.
For some.reason, I just don't like it when it's whizzed with vanilla ice cream and why ruin a steaming pot of luscious custard with banana?

Almonds - love eating a whole Almond but anything else, e g flaked, marzipan, even the smell of shampoo etc makes me retch.

Cherries - love fresh cherries, hate any cherry flavoured things as it all tasted of almond to me.

As you can imagine, a Cherry Bakewell is absolute food hell for me.

Nope. I eat any and all of these things. I can't imagine being so fussy.

Having preferences isn't being fussy though. Surely you must have foods that you don't like or think are weird to eat together?

Lemon cake - YES
Lemon and sugar on pancakes - a classic!

Roasted parsnips- lovely.
Parsnip soup, on the other hand, is absolutely rank. It tastes like farts. Scum.

All parsnips are like farts.
I can only eat them if they're hidden in a casserole.

Ginger in savory food, all good. Sweet stuff though...ginger cake or biscuits? nooooo.

I love fresh cherries but anything cherry flavoured or with cooked cherries is disgusting. Black forest gatoux is gross.

Speaking of the above, chocolate great, fruit great. Almost any combination of the two is awful. Chocolate should only be filled with other chocolate (eg gnashe), neutral busicuityness, nuts or caramel/honeycomb type stuff, everything else is an abomination. There I said it!

Whoever came up with the idea of orange chocolate should be locked in stocks and have rancid tangerines thrown at them.

I also like booze but think boozy chocolate is gross too.

I love tomatoes in anything but can't eat them on their own/raw.

Same with the boozy chocolates. Love all kinds of alcohol but having it inside a chocolate is absolutely vile!

Init4thecatz · 04/05/2025 06:43

All chocolate = great
All fruit = great
Fruit with chocolate and you ruin both.

Peas in curry or shepherds pie yes please.
Peas on their own as a side, no thanks.

I was coming on to say the absolute opposite. Love steak, chips and peas. Hate it when peas turn up in a risotto or shepherds pie.

Olives as part of a charcuterie board or snack. 😋
Olives in a pasta, or as a pizza topping or cooked in a casserole 🤢

Also love an avo but not warm or cooked like in a toastie or wrap. Some things should be served cool not warm.

Edited

I agree that warm/ hot avocado is just plain wrong!!

I wouldn't have thought about it till you said it though, and I can't think of anything else that I'll eat one way, but not another?!

I don't personally agree with anyone else else's (for me)

I don't eat fish/seafood, but I half agree with the poster who doesn't like it with cheese!! I definitely agree with that in most any other way, but I think a cheese sauce would be fine

MeltonInTheHeat · 04/05/2025 07:02

I love Baba Ghanoush but cannot abide aubergine.

Devilsmommy · 04/05/2025 07:14

Sausages love them

Camembert-deep fried or raw, yes indeedy. Baked in its little pot- no thank you.

I'm the opposite, raw bananas absolutely not. Banana milkshake, banana cake, even foam bananas - yes please.

My husband is similar. Loves a steak. Loves bacon. But a fillet wrapped in bacon? No thanks.

Love bananas, love custard, bananas in custard is an abomination.

Love hummus, love caramelised onions, caramelised onions in hummus should be illegal.

BlueEyedBogWitch · 04/05/2025 07:50

Lemons in anything - delicious.
Lemon with pasta - absolutely not.

Glacé cherries in fruit cake - yes.
Glacé cherries anywhere else - foul.

Another one who dislikes fruit in savoury dishes -no to pineapple for sweet and sour!

Atarin · 04/05/2025 08:05

Peas on their own, lovely. Peas in things (pasta, risotto, rice), disgusting. I wish people would stop putting peas in paella - it’s an abomination!!!

mamaduckbone · 04/05/2025 08:12

Cinnamon in a cake or pudding - yes please
Cinnamon in porridge - lovely
Cinnamon in a savoury dish - no thanks.
Lots of chilli recipes have cinnamon in and it just makes it taste like dessert to me.

HippyChickMama · 04/05/2025 08:12

Salmon in a fish cake/fish pie.- yes
Salmon of any type on its own - absolutely not

Almonds - yes
Almonds in frangipane - yes
Almond marzipan - 🤮

ConstantlyFuriosa · 04/05/2025 08:19

Cooked sausages (well done) nice. Cooked sausages (basically boiled) in stew - boak.

BlueandWhitePorcelain · 04/05/2025 08:26

I love bananas in banoffee pie, banana loaf, etc. I can’t even cope with the smell of ripe bananas, never mind eat one!

EndlesslyDecluttering · 04/05/2025 08:29

Fresh pineapple ✅
Pineapple upside down cake ✅
Pineapple on pizza 🤮
Pineapple on gammon🤮

Oranges ✅
Roast duck ✅

So no to fruit and meat combinations here. Also agree that ginger is only nice in savoury dishes not biscuits and cakes.

Alcoholic drinks ✅
Alcohol in any sort of pudding = completely ruined.

Tomatoes raw ✅
Tomato based sauces ✅
Tomatoes roasted or grilled and served with cooked breakfast, steak etc - no thanks.
