Leftover ham ideas - NOT PIE!

BuzzieLittleBee · 06/01/2025 15:05

I bought and slow cooked a ham yesterday to make a chicken, ham and leek pie. I have half the ham left, but can't decide what to do with it. Obviously not a pie, and preferably not a pasta sauce - what else can I do with ham?! I'd prefer something 'interesting' in terms of flavour but am lacking inspiration. Google searches don't get much further than pie. Hoping someone here will have a bright idea or 2...

Ham egg and chips for tea.

Freeze it.

Dice it and use in other things like omelettes or egg bites

Slice it and eat it from the fridge with salad cream

I put chunks of ham into cauliflower cheese. I put a little English mustard in the sauce for additional flavour, and fried onions in top for a bit of crunch.

My favourite with ham leftovers is ham and mushroom pasta bake from Bbcgoodfood website. Or I just freeze it and then use later for omelette or pasta dishes.

Risotto

Oooh, that's what I might do with mine tonight as I also have tonnes of cauliflower and cheese left too.

Pasta bake, with leeks, similar to the cauli cheese idea, which is great. I fancy that now.

catin8oots · 06/01/2025 15:12

I made a ham, potato, red onion, tomato and cheese bake. Was lush

TeeBee · 06/01/2025 15:12

I made a broccoli, carrot and ham soup yesterday, which was nice.

Ham fried rice.
Crispy ham with French toast and maple syrup.
Leek potato and ham soup.
Ham and lentil soup.

This sounds tasty - from a recipe, or did you just cobble it together? Tinned toms or real ones (I only have tinned...)

Pea and ham soup is also good, especially at this time of year. With a ham and cheese toastie.

BuzzieLittleBee · 06/01/2025 15:14

I should have added 'no soup' to my 'preferably no pasta' qualifier! I'm not a fan of soup.

I could make pasta dishes with it in my sleep, but wanted to do something more interesting with it. I think a pasta dish will be half of what's left, but I fancied something different for today's tea.

Something like a corned beef hash but using ham instead of the corned beef?

IfUCantDance · 06/01/2025 15:15

Jambalaya!

Enko · 06/01/2025 15:19

Bokkeumbap (its a Korean inspired type of cooked rice)

lemonmeringuepie1997 · 06/01/2025 15:19

I've been eating chunks of a ham with dollops of kimchi on top ( a spicy chutney would be nice too).

KittytheHare · 06/01/2025 15:23

It makes the most delicious cheese and ham toasties ever.

VodkaCola · 06/01/2025 15:23

Pea and ham soup

Flake some into leek and potato soup or lentil soup

Ham, egg and chips

Use some in a stir fry or sweet and sour

Nice with mashed potatoes, cabbage/broccoli/asparagus/peas etc

Sandwiches!

VodkaCola · 06/01/2025 15:24

Sorry, just saw your 'no soup' comment!

ForPearlViper · 06/01/2025 15:24

I like to keep chopped up ham in the freezer then it is ready to chuck on pizzas, in omlettes, in quiches, in toasties, etc.

AdaColeman · 06/01/2025 15:24

Ham and bean soup, use any type of bean, or a mixture, add onion carrots & celery if available.

Frittata

Asian style noodle soup, dice or shred the ham, use any available type of noodles. Use homemade stock or stock cubes. Add finely sliced vegetables such as broccoli mushrooms, onion, garlic, cabbage, peppers, spring onions, salad leaves such as rocket or endive. Add available spices or sweet chilli sauce, soy etc.
Cooks very quickly, so a good lunch option, and uses leftovers!

murasaki · 06/01/2025 15:24

A bubble and squeak with added ham would be good.

Cornecopia · 06/01/2025 15:25

I’d do pea and ham soup or a pasta dish
