Leftover ham ideas - NOT PIE!

BuzzieLittleBee · 06/01/2025 15:05

I bought and slow cooked a ham yesterday to make a chicken, ham and leek pie. I have half the ham left, but can't decide what to do with it. Obviously not a pie, and preferably not a pasta sauce - what else can I do with ham?! I'd prefer something 'interesting' in terms of flavour but am lacking inspiration. Google searches don't get much further than pie. Hoping someone here will have a bright idea or 2...

I’d do pea and ham soup or a pasta dish

Oops sorry just seen no soup

BadCoffee · 06/01/2025 15:30

Ham hash
Pulled ham

AdaColeman · 06/01/2025 15:32

Panhaggerty, layered ham cheese potatoes and onions, baked. Very warming on a snowy winter day, popular in the North East years ago, look on BBC Food for a recipe.

Pea and ham soup

GroovyChick87 · 06/01/2025 15:37

Ham, cheese and red onion omelette?

boulevardofbrokendreamss · 06/01/2025 15:41

Pea, ham and mint soup
Quiche
Crustless muffins
ham and cheese toasties
Fried rice

GoulashSoup · 06/01/2025 15:41

Eggs Benedict, would probably add some witl d spinach. Not really a dinner dish but could eat it all day long.

Ham, egg and chips.

Ham croquettes.

Tiroler grostl or tartiflette but substituting the bacon with diced ham fried crispy.

Frittata?

AdoraBell · 06/01/2025 15:41

Over Christmas I put all the leftovers including the ham together in a casserole dish, added some mustard and covered with stuffing and baked it. It was bloody delicious

Ooh, tartiflette. Yum.

That sounds divine!

Pea and ham risotto?

AdoraBell · 06/01/2025 15:49

IfUCantDance it was 😋 my inspiration came from a YouTube channel, Ail Lives Well On Less. I didn’t have all the ingredients she used so I just used everything that needed using.

Mumofacertainage · 06/01/2025 15:50

Baked potatoes with ham and cheese. Ie sccop out mash potato, ham spring onion back in skins, then grill.

BigDahliaFan · 06/01/2025 15:53

Ham egg and chips for me. But I can also confirm the basic goring is lovely www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2015/dec/23/glazed-ham-recipes-batch-cooking-get-ahead-richard-turner

BigDahliaFan · 06/01/2025 15:54

FFS nasi goreng

CoastalCalm · 06/01/2025 15:55

It would be ham egg and chips here or ham fried rice - both of which we’ve had to use rest of our Christmas ham and delicious

Miepmiep · 06/01/2025 15:56

Not much help now but we usually cook a ham to eat with gratin dauphinois or garlic mash, then use the leftovers for a pie.

If pasta, pies and soup are off the cards, is quiche too pie like and ramen too pasta like? Tartiflette would be my favourite suggestion or a cassoulet.

DogInATent · 06/01/2025 15:59

Do you have to "do" anything with it?
It's ham. Ham and chips. Ham sandwiches. Ham salad. You don't have to complicate things.

Mairzydotes · 06/01/2025 16:48

I would slice it up and freeze it in small batches.

These can then be defrosted and used for sandwiches or added to other meals .

Toastandbutterand · 06/01/2025 18:01

I made crispy shredded beef once with ham instead of beef. The saltiness went really well with the sweetness of the sauce.

Diana Henry’s Ham & Haddie recipe is fab - in fact thank you for reminding of it as it’s now going on the menu this week.

LindorDoubleChoc · 06/01/2025 18:04

I would have the ham as it is, with a vegetable side dish. Probably cauliflower cheese (or cauliflower and broccoli cheese) and a baked potato.

Or as pp have said, ham egg and chips.
