Bleh. peas go with GREEN things, pesto, courgette, feta, those pointy spears the name of which mysteriously eludes me.

not red sauce. my red sauce only tolerates a red or yellow pepper, celery, carrot and maybe a mushroom at a pinch. ideally it's just onion, cel, carrot, a slice of smoked bacon and toms (and an armful of olive oil). but peas... NONONONONONOOOOOOO. that is WRONG.

but dd3 looooooooooves peas.

she has peans with everything.

AitchTwoOh · 18/04/2008 10:15

oooh weird punctuation in the title. [pedant]

with red sauce? eeeeuch. my dd loves peas as well, mind you, i just like her enough not to put red and green together. should never be seen, dontcha know?

although i do make the exception for ketchup with a fish supper and peas, obviously.

It is as you say a totally disgusting combination; but it can be on the table in 10 minutes and is dd's favourite quick meal.

taipo · 18/04/2008 10:18

You're not wrong, peas and tomato sauce very wrong imo

msappropriate · 18/04/2008 10:20

I had a lovely pasta sauce in Calabria which had tomatoes, cream, ham, chicken mushrooms and peas in it. I'll see if I can find a recipe.

AitchTwoOh · 18/04/2008 10:20

if you insisted, robin, i'd let you grate extra carrot in there. i'm not a snob. but PEAS. it must taste wrong. [hypocrite]

I like peas mixed with the rice I have with my chilli.

DH thinks I am odd, but to me, chilli and plain rice is just WRONG!!!

Ledodgy · 18/04/2008 10:22

Not as wrong as sweetcorn in tomato pasta sauce that is wrong, wrong, wrong!

AitchTwoOh · 18/04/2008 10:22

msappropriate, if it had tomatoes rather than was a tomato sauce i can slightly see that more, but tbh it still sounds like something i'd avoid on a menu. those crazy calabrese are too busy kidnapping local businessmens' wives to cook well...

Psychomum5 · 18/04/2008 10:23

oh, and pea's with tomato sauce, mash and fish fingers is one of my comfort foods....

AitchTwoOh · 18/04/2008 10:24

forget about the kids thing. this recipe is Feed Your Family For A Fiver (don't get me started about how SHIT the mince must be), you have to be prepared to eat it as well.

OP posts:
lilolilmanchester · 18/04/2008 10:25

I must be weird then. I quite like peas with tomato sauce or simply mixed into cooked tomoatoes....

AitchTwoOh · 18/04/2008 10:25

ketchup is exempt, as already stated psychomum... do try to keep up, you pea freak.

OP posts:
msappropriate · 18/04/2008 10:26

it wasn't tomatoes, it was a sauce. Was fab. They have loads of very interesting spicy stuff there but I was pregnant and kept worrying about salami and liver type stuff so didn't explore it to the full. I hate rules in everything so I always like to eat unusual things.

Psychomum5 · 18/04/2008 10:27

I can feed my family for a fiver on decent 'healthy living' mince, and there are 7 of us!!!

I just bulk the mince out with lots of veg and tinned toms and serve with pasta/rice/mash.

good meal that we all like and for under a fiver!!!

AitchTwoOh · 18/04/2008 10:28

so long as you're not bulking out with peas, i heartily approve.

OP posts:
Psychomum5 · 18/04/2008 10:29

.......sorry, not kept up as was 'scan reading' rather than proper 'taking it in' reading.

still....standing by my 'pea freak' name with pride

Psychomum5 · 18/04/2008 10:30

nooooo.....cannot bulk out with pea's as tis only me in the family that like them!!!

FYIAD · 18/04/2008 10:31

I am convinced I often feed my family on a fiver

am confused by the whole thing

AitchTwoOh · 18/04/2008 10:31

i'm wondering why ketchup is exempt? it must be the vinegar, a natural friend of the pea. pease pudding etc.

OP posts:
AitchTwoOh · 18/04/2008 10:33

me too, how much is some noodles, soy sauce and some veg fgs? or some spag bol? (unless you're buying expensive mince).

OP posts:
msappropriate · 18/04/2008 10:33

its was boscaiola sauce
palmch.com/blog2/2008/03/13/whats-cooking-penne-alla-boscaiola/

FYIAD · 18/04/2008 10:33
