Grazing tables - my anxiety is rising even to type these words!

Does anyone else feel anxious at the prospect of a grazing table? All that food; all rammed together and TOUCHING. What on earth do the remains look like after being stripped by the vultures? Ive never been to one, but my friend from work specialises in them and is threatening to invite us all round to imbibe. I'm already running for the hills.

I think they look amazing until anyone touches them.

So the only answer is clearly for me to have one all to myself...

Coincidentally · 13/04/2024 08:23

Isn’t that just another word for C as h by buffet?

RampantIvy · 13/04/2024 08:27

I'm happy to share a grazing platter with DH but not a whole table with other people. Not sure what the issue is with foods touching each other as long as they are all savoury items.

Is she a sheep?🐑

Rosesanddaisies1 · 13/04/2024 08:40

Don’t go then. But you’re being very uptight. It’s a buffet with a fancy name

Exactly. Gross.

UnpickThePockets · 13/04/2024 09:52

When you get ham rolled up and nestled next to brownies or some such. Nasty.

But it isn't is it?
A buffet everything has its own plates/serving bowls.
A grazing table everything is laid on the table amongst one another.

I don't eat meat so would rather not have my cheese and salad, etc laid on top of and next to charcuterie, etc.

Yes, this, exactly. I’ve never eaten anything off one,

MalcolmTuckersSwearBox · 13/04/2024 10:00

I get the impression that they were invented by food stylists for photography shoots but someone got the wrong idea and decided to pull them through to real life and try to eat them. Revolting.

Tintackedsea · 13/04/2024 10:03

Slices of cheap chorizo rolled up to look like fannies next to hacked about kiwi fruits and hard brie.

Nope.

These things are for people who like instagram more than food.

rollonretirementfgs · 13/04/2024 10:03

I don't get the concept personally, but it's no more gross than people sharing food out of bowls and plates.

ViciousCurrentBun · 13/04/2024 10:04

I have seen something much worse online, where people cover their tables with foil or plastic and chuck dinner on it. So a big pile of pasta and sauce or nachos in a pile for everyone to tuck in to.

shoppingshamed · 13/04/2024 10:06

Only on here would someone have grazing table anxiety 😃😂Are you a millennial by any chance?

No it isn't, it's a planar trough. All the food laid out together on the flat. Buffets have separate bowls and plates of sandwiches, salad etc.

I think they look grotesque and I’m a deeply un-anxious 51 year old. Just one who doesn’t like my vegetarian food nestled among the prosciutto.

HeadsShouldersTitsandArse · 13/04/2024 10:12

I don’t like them for weddings or events but im a bit funny about germs (not complete germaphobe just makes me feel a bit funny sharing off with people not in my immediate family)

But for family things like games nights, get together where it’s my immediate family then I quite like them. Caper berries, cured meats, stinky cheeses with grapes and figs. Sometimes throw in a boar sausage roll/scotch egg. Bloody delicious!

They've definitely been posted about before

Exactly no one has to like them but the suggestion they induce anxiety is snowflakery

MaitlandGirl · 13/04/2024 10:22

I did individual grazing boards for my wife and I for date night, pretty and full of food we liked but it was an awful lot of faff.

mitogoshi · 13/04/2024 10:26

It's a buffet, with extra £££ if ordered in. Basically insta ready before anyone touches it. A bit of a fad but seems to be waning.

Personally I like separate plates, and definitely separate plates for the horrible abomination that is egg sandwiches so that they don't pollute the nice stuff. Grin

TeenLifeMum · 13/04/2024 10:27

Not my favourite thing but I don’t love buffets either but when you have loads of people over you’re not going to serve up a 3 course meal so they are helpful and it saves on washing the dishes after I guess. Getting “anxiety” is not normal though. Just eat from the middle of the piles, go in early or eat before you go.

🤣🤣🤣

I'll never be able to unsee a chorizo fanny now.

mitogoshi · 13/04/2024 10:28

I do a grazing board for us, nothing fancy it's just getting stuff out of the fridge and plonking on the breadboard along with bread/crackers as an alternative to eating out on Saturdays
