What do you serve with fishcakes?

Just that really. I love fishcakes but never know what to eat them with. As they are potato based, more potatoes seem overkill?

I’ve picked up some shop bought cod and kimchi Korean fishcakes and was going to make tomorrow with a salad with Asian style dressing. It will be enough for me but worried not filling enough for DH and teens.

Also suggestions what to eat with regular cod or salmon fishcakes much appreciated

Marrowfat peas with 'english' fishcakes, maybe veggie stir-fry with the Korean ones?

PrincessHoneysuckle · 09/01/2024 20:19

Chips,peas and bread and butter!

MsFrog · 09/01/2024 20:20

Salad, green veg, rice, beans in a tomato and paprika sauce. Love a fishcake.

BettyBakesCakes · 09/01/2024 20:57

Potato gratin and peas. no such thing as too many potatoes!

Silverbirchtwo · 09/01/2024 20:58

RubySkies · 09/01/2024 21:04

Green veg.

PianPianPiano · 09/01/2024 21:05

Loads of steamed veg, and sometimes new potatoes with some mayo.. It does feel like double potato, but... Meh.

ImNotReallyHere · 09/01/2024 21:12

Ooh thanks. Bit annoyed I’ve already bought salad ingredients but as so cold and Asian inspired, I might do a stir fry instead.

and maybe with regular fishcakes a salad/ green veg and chips? Not an option this month as teen DD given up chips for January 😂

Chips and beans or peas/mushy peas.

Isthisblocked · 09/01/2024 21:25

I don’t eat potatoes with fishcakes because it does feel like potato, but I add frozen peas, tomato, beetroot, and a couple of slices of lemon.

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 09/01/2024 21:25

Jacket potato, croquettes, chips. Broccoli, peas, carrots. Sometimes cheese sauce. Mashed potato. If I do this then it’s half the potato.

DeedlessIndeed · 09/01/2024 21:27

Supermarket fishcakes are more potato than fish, so additional carbs seems a but much, however teens may need the stodge! I serve with a salad with anchovies and lemon dressing.

I'd stick to your Asian salad suggestion, but maybe include some additional raw veg in the salad to bulk it up. Asian slaws work well and can be pretty filling.

Beenalongwinter · 09/01/2024 21:27

Salad and sweet chilli sauce

MadCatLady27 · 09/01/2024 21:31

Green veg.

Yes - I like green beans, broccoli and/or curly kale, and some dill and mustard sauce

crochetmylifeaway · 09/01/2024 21:42

We do cheese sauce and peas. Traditional Scottish fishing family meal.

mindutopia · 10/01/2024 13:49

We often do basmati rice (carb, but not potato-y) with green veg and some salad.

MaloneMeadow · 10/01/2024 21:39

Baby potatoes, butter & lots of green veg!

Artesia · 10/01/2024 21:41

Green veg- peas, broccoli and green beans usually- and parsley sauce. Sometimes buttered leeks too. I'm all for carbs but wouldn't fancy more potato with them.

Stressybetty · 10/01/2024 21:43

chips or jacket potato, peas and parsley sauce.

PieAndLattes · 10/01/2024 21:44

Boiled potatoes and peas. Fish potatoes are different from non-fish potatoes.

MahShinyShoes · 10/01/2024 21:44

I love Thai prawn fishcakes sat on a big salad, drizzled with sweet chilli sauce, plus a side of home style oven chips with salt & vinegar.

I'm a heathen. A full, happy heathen.
