What do you serve with fishcakes?

Just that really. I love fishcakes but never know what to eat them with. As they are potato based, more potatoes seem overkill?

I’ve picked up some shop bought cod and kimchi Korean fishcakes and was going to make tomorrow with a salad with Asian style dressing. It will be enough for me but worried not filling enough for DH and teens.

Also suggestions what to eat with regular cod or salmon fishcakes much appreciated

My Grandma always used to do piles of tiny crispy salmon fish cakes with peas, cucumber in vinegar and sugar and cottage cheese along with super thinly sliced bread and butter which will forever be my favourite.

Sometimes I do cheese sauce and peas or broccoli or cauliflower.

Roasted Mediterranean veg (so peppers, red onion, courgettes and cherry tomato)

emmylousings · 10/01/2024 21:51

Rice salad works

sagalooshoe · 10/01/2024 21:51

LetMeDream · 10/01/2024 21:53

I like mine in a sandwich with some brown sauce.

Mumoftwo1312 · 10/01/2024 21:55

Fish cake is one of the few things our 3yo will agree to eat! We have them with sweet potato fries, peas, sweetcorn and capers (dd loves capers "those tiny salty things")

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 10/01/2024 21:58

We had fish cakes tonight with ratatouille 😂 I wasn't that keen but dd liked it.

I have also served them with risotto, sometimes with rice and veg and sometimes with chips and beans.

CrispsandCheeseSandwich · 10/01/2024 22:15

Never occurred to me to serve them with potatoes. We have them with beans

keffie12 · 10/01/2024 22:38

A nice salad and fresh bread with butter

pizzaHeart · 10/01/2024 22:49

green salad, broccoli, green beans or mixed frozen vegetables maybe some bread but never potato, they’ve got enough already

watcherintherye · 10/01/2024 22:49

We usually have fishcakes with peas, sweetcorn and asparagus!

caringcarer · 10/01/2024 23:00

Mashed potatoes and peas if for dinner. Hash browns and egg if for breakfast.

IBegYourBiggestPardon · 10/01/2024 23:04

Chips and beans or spaghetti hoops or chips and mushy peas

lollipoprainbow · 10/01/2024 23:08

Salad or coleslaw

HardcoreLadyType · 10/01/2024 23:11

Samphire.

MsChatterbox · 10/01/2024 23:15

I do serve another potato - roast potatoes - and also broccoli and tartar sauce. Delicious. I want it now 😍

Grimmz · 10/01/2024 23:17

A big green salad

And, if I'm at the pub, skinny chips

alongtimeagoandfaraway · 10/01/2024 23:19

Mashed sweet potatoes and peas

AdaColeman · 10/01/2024 23:27

Carrots & peas or a mix of green vegetables but most importantly, tartare sauce!
Cauliflower cheese is a good call, I'll be having that soon!

Roasted Mediterranean veg (so peppers, red onion, courgettes and cherry tomato)

Same. Sometimes a few salad potatoes too.

DuchessPotato · 10/01/2024 23:43

With regular, I’d probably have broccoli and green beans. I wouldn’t do chips now for myself or DH as we try not to go overboard on carbs, but would have done for my DC when they were at home.

Asian slaw sounds great for your Korean ones.

branken · 11/01/2024 00:03

Two cakes each plus a rocket/tomato salad

UnderMontanaSkies · 11/01/2024 12:05

A really big heritage tomato and sliced white onion salad. Delicious!

eatdrinkandbemerry · 11/01/2024 12:09

Salad and chunky coleslaw is what I serve fish cakes with

PossumintheHouse · 11/01/2024 12:11

Buttered new potatoes or hasselback potatoes, green beans or asparagus, simple side salad of rocket, tomatoes, cucumber and red onion.
