Sugar sandwiches 🤢. We didn't have much money...loved em at time, now 🤢...the crunch between teeth makes me shiver thinking about it

Luno · 20/09/2023 16:51

We had a weird mix of homegrown organic vegetables and homemade cakes plus processed stuff like breaded processed meats, packet sauces and a weird bright green cheesecake (grasshopper flavour?!). I also used to eat an entire packet of biscuits every day. Always been skinny but would avoid like the plague now!

Loubelle70 · 20/09/2023 16:53

Cream soda fizzy pop 🤢. Would have guzzled and fought over that as kids though.
Others mentioned....I still love angel delight and dream topping 😉

Azaeleasinbloom · 20/09/2023 16:55

Creamola Foam, Angel Delight, Crispy Pancakes, powdered orange juice, sugar sandwiches, Cream Soda ice cream floats - all figured large in my childhood. My teeth want to leave me just thinking about it😱 But cold mince sandwiches at granny’s 🤢

MintJulia · 20/09/2023 16:59

White blotting paper bread
Coke full fat - or any cola
Quality Street

Butterkist8 · 20/09/2023 17:12

All those feckin' sweets.

There's more amalgam in my mouth now than enamel.

BackToRealMe · 20/09/2023 17:16

There's a meal in my home country: cabbage in tomato sauce. Kind of sweet. Absolutely horrid.
When the kids complain about what I cook I always mention this abomination and tell them how lucky they are not to have to eat it.

beguilingeyes · 20/09/2023 17:20

Brains faggots are rank. Proper Welsh faggots are the food of the gods.
Mostly it's stuff that I can't eat now because they don't exist any more.
Does anyone remember Cheesies (cheese and mashed potato in breadcrumbs) and Chicklets? Also the people who made Sandwich Spread made a cucumber spread that was amazing in a sandwich with cheese.
I couldn't eat tinned salmon now.

Bleepbloopbluurp · 20/09/2023 17:25

Instant whip. We weren't posh enough for Angel Delight (which I have tried as an adult and is rank).

Vienetta, which my nan bought for us and was the height of sophistication as far as I was concerned.

Bernard Matthews processed turkey. And potted meat in those little jars. And sandwich spread.

Topseyt123 · 20/09/2023 17:25

Remember the jars of Heinz sandwich spread when they first came out? I used to love that on my school packed lunch.

You can still get it and I decided to try it again a couple of years ago. It was awful, and I ended up throwing the rest of the jar out. Never again.

Missingthesea · 20/09/2023 17:30

Chitterlings. My Dad loved them, and used to share them with me. I don't think you can even buy them now.

I agree about Sandwich Spread. It's horrible now. Artificial sweeteners, perhaps?

Cheese footballs - a delicacy at Christmas.
I bought some a few years ago, tasted them and binned them. Vile

PrincessHoneysuckle · 20/09/2023 17:31

Faggots

Heinz tinned ravioli
Potted beef
Arctic roll

wrappedupinablanket · 20/09/2023 17:44

1970s beef burgers, and frozen fish cakes. God knows what was in them.

ElizaWinter · 20/09/2023 17:53

Dandelion and Burdock
Parma Violets
Sherbert Dib Dab
Pink mice
Sugar sandwiches

SquashPenguin · 20/09/2023 18:42

Sunny Delight. I don’t think the recipe is the same now but I still wouldn’t touch it again. I like my teeth not dissolved.

VeridicalVagabond · 20/09/2023 18:45

Potato waffle with a square of that neon orange American "cheese", topped with a fried egg.

Strawberry angel delight.

Findus crispy pancakes.

Turkey twizzlers.

Sunny D.

Greensleeves · 20/09/2023 18:49

Tinned pilchards on toast. I was the only one who could stomach it, so I got my siblings' helpings when my stepfather wasn't looking. I can't even stand the smell of it now.

QuietlyWonderful · 20/09/2023 18:54

Bread and dripping!
I've turned into Jack Sprat - just can't eat fat, although I'm OK roasting potatoes in the dripping or duck fat

allthehops · 20/09/2023 18:55

Used to love a Sara Lee chocolate gateau. DH bought one the other week when I sent him out to buy a dessert and it was rank 🤢
