Tinned potatoes, tinned carrots, tinned green beans, tinned everything 🤮

musixa · 23/05/2023 07:00

Another for mince (the way it was cooked at home, just fried with nothing to make it more palatable).

JauntyRedShoes · 23/05/2023 07:14

Smoked haddock or yellow fish. I like it now. My mum liked tripe cooked in milk, I tried it and hated it. She gave me a tongue sandwich once but I refused to eat it and don’t know what it tastes like.

Ellemeg82 · 23/05/2023 07:27

Tinned ham with that cat food-esqe jelly. Also tinned corned beef. Yuk!

KohlaParasaurus · 23/05/2023 07:29

Mince again! I still gag on my mum's version even though there's nothing awful about the way she cooks it. I have no problem eating minced beef in pies, lasagne etc.

Roll mop herrings.

countrygirl99 · 23/05/2023 07:30

My mumwas such a awful cook it's hard to choose. She hated cooking so everything was the cheapest possible ingredients with no imagination or real effort. Spaghetti bolognaise was unseasoned boiled mince and onions poured over pasta. Greasy and vile. I used to ask for just the spaghetti and grate myself some cheese instead.

Giselletheunicorn · 23/05/2023 07:54

'Savoury' mince in gravy with mashed swede. (No herbs, no spices.) Just bland. I hated it.

We had no money and it was cheap. (Especially as we lived rurally and all the farmers grew swede and would just sell them using honesty boxes at the side of the road.) But I haven't touched a swede since....

Giselletheunicorn · 23/05/2023 07:55

Glad I'm not the only mince hater in the room. It was mostly gristle..

wildinthecountry · 23/05/2023 07:57

Looks like Mum's mince needs to get in the bin .😂

TiredOfCleaning · 23/05/2023 08:01

Oh pumpkin. kent pumpkins. My mother would mnash them with butter cream and nutmeg and I would boak.

Flipping love pumpkin now.

Also cold crumbed lambs brains and iceberg lettuce sandwiches.

There is no way I am touching that EVER again. She finally stopped forcing me when i vomited one back up in front of our neighbours who were over.

IsletsOfLangerhans · 23/05/2023 08:10

Liver and bacon, but Gammon steaks were the worst. Pure salty, tough awfulness 😬

Corkcobain · 23/05/2023 08:14

Stuffed marrow- stuffed with oily, grey, squeaky, grisly mince

Was your Mother called Deirdre Barlow ?😆

TropicalMoon · 23/05/2023 08:16

Liver & sausage casserole- it was actually very tasty once I picked out the disgusting liver.

Frogmila · 23/05/2023 08:18

Any sort of meat. Liver, stewing steak. Lamb. Urgh. Malt loaf.

Allthegoodnamesarechosen · 23/05/2023 08:20

What is it with Malt loaf? I loved it.

i recently saw some in Tesco for the first time in centuries, it came home with me….😍

DemonicCaveMaggot · 23/05/2023 08:26

Boil in the bag cod with thickened tomato soup as a sauce.
Garlic sausage but it was a giant horror sausage of weird colour and consistency.
'American' beef burgers from Bejam that had gristle and odd white bits in with half frozen bluecurrant cheesecake for pudding that had a sour layer of purple mush on top.

A couple of years ago my entire family pissed me off so I went to Aldi and bought them watercress and spinach salad with a fat free dressing for their dinner. My mother was an excellent cook so maybe my father and I had annoyed her in some way?

TerfIngOnTheBeach · 23/05/2023 08:30

So many that at the time I hated like liver, stew and dumplings, suet pudding.

all of which as an adult, and cooked properly, are utterly delicious.

SongsForHappyDays · 23/05/2023 08:39

Meat. 🤮
I refused and they reluctantly accepted that.

Also rhubarb.

Amdone123 · 23/05/2023 08:39

@Allthegoodnamesarechosen , I love malt loaf, too. You only need a small slice to be full.
@GnomeDePlume , oh god, I just had a flashback - I don't know if I was more scared of the boiled bacon or the terrifying pressure cooker ! And the smell lingered for months.
Having said that, we ate anything and I love liver, I eat it regularly.

ChrissyHynde · 23/05/2023 08:39

Stuffed marrow, just revolting 🤮

fantasmasgoria1 · 23/05/2023 08:43

Marrowfat peas and butter beans are awful. In fact most of the stuff mentioned here is dreadful. When I ate meat as an adult I liked liver and onions but it had to be cooked very differently.

SquashPenguin · 23/05/2023 08:44

Meat 🤮 Turned veggie at 5 and never looked back.

SongsForHappyDays · 23/05/2023 08:55

Full on a small slice of malt loaf?

Thats so mumsnet. 🤣

Amdone123 · 23/05/2023 09:00

@SongsForHappyDays , I meant after my pudding, chips, peas and gravy type meal. 😄
