polkadotpixie · 17/05/2023 23:31

Lamb 🤮 Grey and chewy

I'm still a vegetarian over 25 years later

whatdoyoudo3 · 17/05/2023 23:31

Pork chops. Lamb chops. Beef stew.

HipTightOnions · 17/05/2023 23:32

RaininSummer · 17/05/2023 23:35

Oh crikey yes... Still remember the heart on the plate looking like it was going to start beating.i came on this thread to say stuffed heart. Been a vegetarian since I left home 38 years ago

Crikeyalmighty · 17/05/2023 23:36

Not my parents but my grandma was very keen on giving me dripping on toast

LunaMay · 17/05/2023 23:38

Liver and bacon, i still preferred that over mushrooms though

Simianwalk · 17/05/2023 23:38

Tinned ravioli.
Liver.
Ox tongue soup
Rice pudding

almostoverthehill · 17/05/2023 23:39

mince meat (fuck knows what it was was though it was all gristly 🤮)
heart
liver

CC4712 · 17/05/2023 23:41

Not my parents, but grandparents cooked everything in lard/dripping. So bacon was cooked floating in an inch of oil.
Salt was added liberally to all cooking water, then extra onto the vegetables
Broccoli was the consistency of mash
My nan lived to 102, so clearly wasn't all that bad!

Beamur · 17/05/2023 23:41

Marrowfat peas
Lamb chops (no seasoning)
Curry with sultanas in it
I liked liver and stuffed hearts! Still eat liver occasionally but not heart.

larlypops · 17/05/2023 23:42

Liver and bacon

Groutyonehereagain · 17/05/2023 23:43

Over cooked beef, every Sunday.

SisyphusDad · 17/05/2023 23:49

Cauliflower cheese.

I remember getting sent to my bedroom for refusing to eat it! (Obviously in the days well before the average kid's bedroom had more technology than the moon landings).

Beseen22 · 17/05/2023 23:51

My mum cooked new potatoes every night and never ever seasoned them or added butter. They were also just slightly al dente. I only realised they could be nice as an adult.

DaftyLass · 17/05/2023 23:53

Pork hocks
Heart
Liver
Brains

nougatcougar · 17/05/2023 23:53

Oh good grief came in here also to say liver. Just awful, still cannot stand it, even the smell

Ninetynineflake · 17/05/2023 23:56

Plaice.
Tinned fruit salad. Not all pieces were tender - I’d end up choking.

Saz12 · 22/05/2023 23:48

Tripe. Properly disgusting.
Baked stuffed cabbage. Was stuffed with raw sausage meat, green peppers, breadcrumbs and chopped up cabbage leaves.

Orders76 · 23/05/2023 00:00

Ah I see the veggie community brought up on meat here!

I raise you a tripe, heart , steak and kidney, pudding made with blood 🤢
Some of my more favourite ones, jams chutneys, nettle soups, stewed rhubarb.

BunnySneezes · 23/05/2023 00:46

Boiled potatoes. So grim.

RosaCaramella · 23/05/2023 01:02

Another (fried) liver and onions here, sometimes with (fried) cabbage too.
Also steak and kidney pie which was mostly pieces of kidney…
Unsurprisingly I became vegetarian at age 18 although still can’t abide cabbage.

AutumnCrow · 23/05/2023 01:07

Belly pork, nipple, hairs.

Sprouts.

And the gravy of misery.
