Your favourite Greek (or Greek style yogurt)

WildFlowerBees · 22/03/2023 18:53

I used to have Fage 0% but I find it too sour so tried Yeo Valley Greek style which is better more creamy. But I'm still on the hunt for the best creamy yogurt full of good bacteria not really full fat as I dislike the taste but without that tangy aftertaste.

I add honey to mine but I'd love to be able to eat it straight.

Any recommendations?

Tims raspberry, delicious!

Itsonlyagame · 23/03/2023 22:21

I usually buy the Aldi 10% one which is great but I had the lidl one a few weeks ago and it is absolutely fantastic.

Greek and Greek style are entirely different products. If you find Fage too sour, then any strained Greek yoghurt is going to be similar.

I'm very happy with the Tesco and Waitrose Greek Yoghurts, but you probably won't be.

The terms aren't used consistently though, and not all 'Greek Style' is stirable and gloopy. The Lancashire Farm 'Greek style' is set and strained and solid, like Farge, for e.g.

Franticbutterfly · 23/03/2023 22:38

Fage. Winner every time!

BethDuttonsTwin · 23/03/2023 22:42

Tim’s yoghurt is perfection. I only wish they’d bring their passion fruit and Mango and Tumeric varieties back. Gutted when they went :(

FatAgainItsLettuceTime · 23/03/2023 22:46

Sainsburys taste the difference authentic Greek yoghurt, full fat is delicious.

The 0 fat one is Ok but no where near as good as full fat, it's really creamy and can just be eaten plain.

I really love the kvarg pots. No idea if they are Greek or Greek style but they are sooo thick and delicious

They are not yoghurt, they're quark which is a soft cheese. They are nice though, the white chocolate one is good.

practicepracticepractice · 23/03/2023 22:49

The one from Lidl is the best.

MaryQueenOfSwots · 23/03/2023 22:56

Tim’s is so good. It’s ruined all other yogurts for me. We get it from the milkman but think Waitrose sells it.

I think personally the sourness is to do with it being 0% fat. The higher fat ones are delicious on their own

JPA · 24/03/2023 14:35

Greek yogurt is supposed to be a bit sour. It's also supposed to be thick enough to stand the spoon up in. If it moves around the pot when you tilt it it isn't proper Greek yogurt. They aren't straining it enough, probably to sell you more water per Kg.

Fage 5% is the best I've tried, but it's £5.80 for 900g so I only buy it on offer.

Fage 0% is indeed sour, but not in a good way.

The Greek 'style' yogurts I avoid like the plague. They just don't have the right taste or texture. Many are indeed thick, but more like eating whipped heavy cream. Some also have a chalky and nasty aftertaste.

ThoughSheIsLittleSheIsFierce · 24/03/2023 14:40

Tim's. I have to make a special trip to Waitrose each week.

BlueHeelers · 24/03/2023 16:45

My Greek friend says that in the UK , Fage 5% fat is the nearest he’s found to real Greek yoghurt.

JaninaDuszejko · 24/03/2023 17:01

For information only but since the OP likes the Yeo Valley Greek Style yogurt I should point out that Sainsbury's Greek Style (called 'house yogurt' by my kids) and the Co-Op Greek Style yogurts taste very similar.

I would assume the bitter taste of the 0% fat yogurt is because of the lack of fat and the addition of whatever they add to make it thick when there is no fat.

I thought the difference between greek yogurt and greek style is that greek yogurt is made with goats milk and greek style is made with cows milk. I prefer the tanginess of greek style over the creaminess of greek (but know others might differ).

Wallabyone · 24/03/2023 17:10

Tim's Dairy is the absolute best...they're a lovely small family run business too. Try it, the plain one is delicious, and the flavoured ones are amazing too.

BatFaceOwl · 24/03/2023 17:11

Total 5% or M & S 10%. I buy both and like them both equally. Didn't like Aldi - in comparison, not as creamy or rich

BloomingHyacinths · 24/03/2023 17:20

Lidl full fat. I eat it every day with fruit. Tried all the rest and this is the best.
Lancashire farm, Aldi, Yeo, not as thick and creamy.

Sammysquiz · 24/03/2023 17:38

JustFuckOffPlease · 23/03/2023 21:59

The Tesco finest full fat Greek yoghurt in the round tub blows everything else out of the water. Creamier and smoother without the tangy aftertaste and f all other ones I've tried.

LOVE it.

I came on to say the same!

I love Greek yoghurts and have shopped around loads to find the best, and Tesco Finest is my favourite, closely followed by the Waitrose one.

ItsReallyOnlyMe · 24/03/2023 17:39

After extensive research (!) I've found Aldi is the best.

Daisyismynameorisnot · 24/03/2023 17:42

The Waitrose one

Mistymornin · 26/03/2023 06:19

If you any Greek/Turkish food shops near you, that’s where you get the best yoghurts.

LadySpratt · 26/03/2023 08:27

The Waitrose 1 range have one with fat and one without. I was surprised by the zero fat one as it had a much better mouth-feel than I was expecting. But, the one with fat is absolutely lovely and I use it in so many things - savoury as well as sweet. Yum!

iamenough2023 · 27/03/2023 19:58

I love home made yogurt the most. I make mine using store bought Balkan style natural yogurt.

bruffin · 27/03/2023 20:07

i made greek yogurt yesterday. Starter was the M&S 10% Authentic, full fat uht milk . 8 hours in the yogurt maker and then the whey drained from it. It is lovely today

WildFlowerBees · 05/04/2023 08:41

A little update, we've tried most of the suggestions except Aldi & Lidl as we don't have any close by. Tim's Dairy is the favourite. Absolutely lovely and very moorish, no tang just creamy lovely yogurt. Thank you!
