Vegetarian option help!!

Hi all

Planning a surprise wedding anniversary party and have to choose the menu.

A few of the guests are vegetarian so I'm struggling with the options for starters.
Which one would you pick?

A. Caramelised onion tart cucumber & radish salad

B. Smoked aubergine served with flatbread, pomegranate soy yogurt, sesame seeds & garden mint salad

C. Twice baked cheese and spinach soufflé

Trying to keep it classy but also please everyone & none of the 3 options jump at me. It's not an option to let the guests choose as it has to be picked before the day and all have to have the same plate of food.
Please help 😂
Tia x

C
A
B - soy yogurt is vile.

Some posters seemed to have missed the point that OP is not cooking - it's a catered event.

Re the point about a vegan menu being unfair to veggies, it's even more unfair to meat & fish eaters !

StrawberryAnnie · 23/01/2023 18:13

B
C
A

Hidingawaytoday · 23/01/2023 18:16

Is the starter for everyone or just the vegetarians? If the latter, can you speak to the most 'important' veggie to the birthday person and see what they'd prefer? For my wedding we got my dsis choose the veggie options as she was the closest veggie to us iyswim.

Failing that - I'd go b, c, a.

Everydayitsgettingcloser · 23/01/2023 18:19

I would go for one with eggs/dairy as the main is vegan - personally I would prefer souffle but the tart sounds nice too

hayls89 · 23/01/2023 15:56

Thanks a lot everyone.

Will definitely take all of your thoughts in consideration. Will count at the end which starter has the most votes.

Not sure why most of the vegetarian options are actually vegan 😅 maybe in case there's a few vegetarians and a few vegans the venue can give them all the same plate of food? It must be easier for the venue

A little unfair to the vegetarians IMO

Yep

spent 40years not having a choice as a vegetarian because it’s all about meat, now the rest of my life not having a choice as a vegetarian as vegans are more important

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 23/01/2023 18:26

A or C - I don't like aubergine. I'd be a very happy party goer if I got A or C plus that main. What's for pud?

JulesJules · 23/01/2023 18:28

Vegetarian here. I'd go for the onion tart. I really hate the way vegan food is often the only option now to cover vegans and vegetarians. Restaurants and supermarkets are doing this in a big way, I'm sure they think it's killing two birds with one stone (plant based 'birds' obvs 😁) but I find a lot of vegan substitutes unpalatable and over processed.

Is your name because Lupin actor David Thewlis is a vegetarian, just curious

I agree
Im so peeved off
Was hoping in my later years restaurants would start to do more for us
Actually it’s got worse

junglistmassive · 23/01/2023 18:38

All sound great.
C, B, A

thelionthewitchtheaudacityofTHISbitch · 23/01/2023 18:38

C A B for me - loathe aubergine. I am vegetarian not vegan and agree with a lot of the comments above. Why not make the whole menu vegan - I mean meat eaters can eat plant based food too. Cuts out all choice. Makes it very easy for the venue. What meat eaters don't want to eat vegan? No neither do I yet I don't get a choice!

DahliaMacNamara · 23/01/2023 18:38

At least there's a choice to avoid the fakey stuff on this menu.

HallieHufflepuff · 23/01/2023 18:45

@hayls89 Why is it unfair to the vegetarians? Vegan food is delicious, much better than serving animal parts.

piedbeauty · 23/01/2023 19:12

They all sound good, but the tart might be a bit dull.

The smoked aubergine has lots of tastes and textures, and the soufflé feels luxurious to me.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 23/01/2023 19:13

@Everyonehasavoice No. I didn't even know he was!

So agree about the veggie/vegan thing. I like cheese. Don'r mind eating vegan sometimes, but really object to it being forced on me more and more.

Ilovelurchers · 23/01/2023 19:16

I'd pick C as I think most people like souffle?

If it was just for me I would go for B, but I know a lot of people who hate aubergine because of the texture, so might be too controversial.

A most people would eat too, but maybe a bit boring?

I think because most vegetarians (I assume) love cheese & prefer normal yogurt instead of soy yogurt 🤷🏻‍♀️

I'm vegetarian not vegan, and (done well) B would be my preference, though agree with an earlier comment of how this dish could be miss and is possibly the most divisive. A is the safest option but uninspiring, and I have reservations about the quality of mass catered soufflé, which may be unfair but would rule out C for me. And personally I don't mind eating vegan food as a vegetarian. My dinner tonight happened to be vegan and it was delicious.

Vegetarians don’t want fake cheese!

genie10 · 23/01/2023 21:21

Definitely A

hugoagogo · 23/01/2023 21:32

A
C
B
Not sure I fancy the main, can I have the soufle and the tart? and chips

HallieHufflepuff · 23/01/2023 22:04

@Overthebow alot of meat eaters and vegetarians I know love vegan food and vegan cheese.
Especially when someone who is a good cook prepares it.
Cheese made from a cow's breast milk is disgusting

Which is why you are vegan
Not everyone is
Everyone eats differently
Which is why there is meat based food, fish based, vegetarian and vegan
Vegetarians are not vegans.

We all have a choice

BetiYeti · 23/01/2023 22:15

I’m vegetarian and love the sound of the aubergine dish! But all of them would be lovely, great choices.

Spotsstripes · 23/01/2023 22:17

B. Smoked aubergine served with flatbread, pomegranate soy yogurt, sesame seeds & garden mint salad.
Then a but not c.
