Veggie sausages?

Icantremembermyusername · 06/11/2021 20:59

Tomorrow night's tea - sausages, Yorkshire puddings, broccoli, gravy and New potatoes. DC want to try veggie sausages (as a family we are slowly moving to more plant based meals). Any suggestions for what we should buy,

[quote londonmummy1966]The best veggie sausages by a very long way are Glamorgan Sausages - make them yourself and freeze. Food of the gods.

They sound lovely! I was going to suggest Nigel Slaters white bean sausages which are similar but have cannelloni beans in them. I haven't made them for years but used to make them quite often. My kids really liked them but as my ed is df finding a fake cheese that everyone likes has been difficult.

LInda McCartney chorizo style ones.
Waitrose Leek and Mushroom.
M & S Shroom dogs or Puppies.
Quorn best of british ones (not the normal ones, they give me the worst heartburn for some reason)

And we always have a few bags of the Richmond ones in the freezer - they're probably the ones we eat the most. I happily discovered you can buy them frozen and they're never out of stock!

ohtwatbollocks · 07/11/2021 13:42

Richmond or Linda McCartney- red onion and rosemary

Icantremembermyusername · 07/11/2021 15:23

No meat free Richmond to be found so qd have frozen quorn sausages. Will report back!

GMH74 · 07/11/2021 16:11

Cauldron

RedRosie · 07/11/2021 16:14

We love the Cauldron Lincolnshire ones best. And I'm sure we've tried them all!

PuppyMonkey · 07/11/2021 16:22

Oh dear, the Quorn ones are yuck imho.

Dmsandfloatydress · 07/11/2021 16:55

Heck taste exactly like meat! Its really weird to be honest. Utterly delicious though!

PinkBuffalo · 07/11/2021 19:07

I am not a fan of the quorn ones. If you not like them there are others out there 👍
I think I like the Richmond ones cos they are the plainest and I am v. Fussy eater

Icantremembermyusername · 07/11/2021 19:12

Quorn sausages were eaten :-) They were OK. Everyone ate them !

I’m not a fan of the normal Quorn sausages but the Best of British are much nicer and they’re usually in the deli section rather than frozen.

Frazzled2207 · 07/11/2021 20:29

Richmond.
However almost anything Linda McCartney goes down well in this house too

lastqueenofscotland · 08/11/2021 06:45

I think Linda McCartney ones are rank. Oily cardboard. Shroomdogs imo are the best

Quorn not my favourite

I’d keep going with various brands til you find one your family really like as they do vary a lot

Richmond/cauldron/shroom dog & Linda all rotate in my house

cherrytree63 · 08/11/2021 07:26

Cauldron, or Sainsbury's and Tesco's own brand.
Linda McCartney taste like really cheap catering pack sausages yo me.
I'm going to give the Richmind a go after reading this thread, I've had their veggie bacon and it was ok, a bit nutty in texture but crisped up well.
My local shop used to sell Little Willies which are very nice, but now only stock Quorn cocktails which are tasty in a sandwich.

OccultGnuAsWell · 08/11/2021 07:29

I'm a fan of Richmond.

Picked up a bag of 8 frozen vegetarian Richmond ones for £2 in B&M.

In the same shop 8 frozen meat Richmond sausages were £1.50.

I thought meat was an expensive ingredient? What are they putting in the veggie ones to increase the price like that?

notacooldad · 08/11/2021 18:02

A criticism of Richmond sausages is that they are too meaty tasting.
Whether that is a good thing or not depends on why you are giving up meat.
Personally I dont mind them. I also like Cauldren and Linda McCartney ones.

Richmond meat sausages are particularly cheap.
Littleroundsponge · 08/11/2021 18:05

If you like very realistic and meaty tasting sausages then Richmond are the best! I very rarely eat any other type now. If you're after a more traditional veggie sausage then Linda McCartney are great and you can get original, red onion flavour and chorizo ones!

Booksandwine80 · 08/11/2021 18:06

Tesco plant chef ones are nice, even DH likes them and he loves meat Grin

Warmduscher · 08/11/2021 18:06

@mrsrobin

I only like Cauldron - either flavour
Me too.

Richmond sausages are great if you want a sausage that is very like meat ones - slimy and extremely salty!

Samiamnot · 12/12/2021 09:01

Richmond! Been veggie almost 30 years. Was all about Linda McCartney for years but I'm a a Richmond convert. Cauldron also nice, peppery.

Webbedlife · 16/12/2021 15:05

I didn't like Richmond, Linda Mc or Heck. The only ones I can stand are Cauldron. I prefer the Cumberland but will eat either.
