Veggie sausages?

Icantremembermyusername · 06/11/2021 20:59

Tomorrow night's tea - sausages, Yorkshire puddings, broccoli, gravy and New potatoes. DC want to try veggie sausages (as a family we are slowly moving to more plant based meals). Any suggestions for what we should buy,

Richmond. I love them but my DC and DH weren't keen.

MysticCT · 06/11/2021 22:19

I like the Linda McCartney ones but my DH and youngest son like the Richmond ones. It depends if you want them to be fairly realistic, it puts me off them if they look too meaty.

I only like Cauldron - either flavour

londonmummy1966 · 06/11/2021 22:23

The best veggie sausages by a very long way are Glamorgan Sausages - make them yourself and freeze. Food of the gods.

TunnelOfGoats · 06/11/2021 22:24

Cauldron are amazing!

Noworneverever · 06/11/2021 22:25

Another vote for Richmond. You can get them in the fridges and also the freezer section. They are the most similar to meat sausages that I've found.

Ethelfromnumber73 · 06/11/2021 22:38

Cauldron all the way, nothing else comes close

RaisedByPangolins · 06/11/2021 22:59

My DS swears by Richmond. They’re quite convincing as a cheap pink sausage! Probably much like Richmond actual sausages! Will have to try Cauldron too.

Goodwitch9 · 07/11/2021 08:24

I really don't like the ones that are like meaty sausages! I used to buy the Wicken Fen spinach, leek and cheese sausages from Holland & Barrett but they seem to have stopped stocking them, which is a shame.

SpookyPumpkinPants · 07/11/2021 08:31

Cauldron

The worn ones are ok if that's what they have out, but no longer buy Quorn to eat at home.

Nor do I buy Linda McCartney or Richmond.

Most veggie sausages benefit from being well cooked! The texture can be a bit meh if not. I do the cauldron ones on a tray in the oven on 200, coated in olive oil. Very good & lovely cold too!!

Sadik · 07/11/2021 08:52

Seconding Glamorgan sausages, either made yourself (they freeze well uncooked) or bought - so much better than the 'fake meat' options. (That's speaking as a meat eater who mostly eats veggie)

Sadik · 07/11/2021 08:56

I'd also recommend Sosmix which you mix with water & shape before cooking as a sausage alternative. Though it works better as a burger shape I think as you get more crispy edges.

SixQuidGames · 07/11/2021 08:56

Quorn Best of British.

Damnyoureyes · 07/11/2021 08:58

Richmond.
Devine.

fairymouse · 07/11/2021 08:58

I always get cauldron or quorn but have just added richmond to my basket after reading this! Can't standard the linda McCartney ones- like cardboard

Fluffyhairdontcare · 07/11/2021 09:03

Veggie my whole life. Richmond are my fave too!

12345FishAlive · 07/11/2021 09:03

Another vote for Richmond! Let us know what you think of them OP.

RockinHorseShit · 07/11/2021 10:03

I was going to try Richmond after all of the recommendations here, until I saw this... they now sound awful, nothing worse than cheap sausages🤢.

I'll stick to my favourite Cauldron... Aldi's frozen meat free Lincoln sausages are a decent close second too & cheaper

theneverendinglaundry · 07/11/2021 10:07

Richmond and also the new Quorn ones are the best imo. I also like the sainsbury's fake chorizo ones.

AwkwardPaws27 · 07/11/2021 10:12

Aldi do some fab ones that veg rather than meat replacement - the sweet potato ones are lovely. Their beetroot burgers are also brilliant.
They are in the fresh section near the deli bits usually.

PuppyMonkey · 07/11/2021 10:19

I like Richmond best too. @Sadik where do you buy Sosmix? Used to have it in the 80s and loved it then, thought it had been discontinued.

Saisong · 07/11/2021 10:27

The Richmond ones are useful, but they are very salty! I still buy them because they are good for making meatballs or sausage casserole. Otherwise we use the cauldron ones.

Sadik · 07/11/2021 10:35

@PuppyMonkey what I actually get these day is Suma's own brand - they do a sausage mix and a burger mix, mostly I have the burger mix (it's a bit more spicy, not sure there's much other difference). I buy it by the kg from Suma, but our local wholefood shop has 500g packs of both. Sosmix proper does still exist but only sold in catering size quantities (10kg sacks) I think and I don't need to produce vegan food in those quantities these days Grin

PuppyMonkey · 07/11/2021 10:38

@Sadik - thank you!

I mean I like it but I’m not sure I could get through quite that amount.Grin

Thanks for Aldi the veggie burger tip @AwkwardPaws27. I’ve been wanting to try different burgers lately.
