What, if anything, do you have for dinner on Shrove Tuesday?

Do you bother with dinner, or just have pancakes?

We used to have lentil soup and then pancakes, but nobody in the family other than me likes lentil soup, or any soup really!

I know this is Mumsnet, so, I assume many people just quickly have a whiff of lemon juice from the pancakes and that sees them through till Easter Wink, but for everyone else, just wondering what people's traditions are.

Also, my dcs don't like pancakes enough to make a meal of them alone.

We usually have something light followed by pancakes.

This year we've decided to do savoury pancakes (mushrooms and spinach) followed by sweet. I'm buying ready made pancakes for the savoury ones, for stuffing, and will make the sweet ones.

EventuallyDeleted · 12/02/2021 16:22

We tend to have a light normal meal and 2 or 3 pancakes each for pudding.

DriftGames · 12/02/2021 16:24

We used to have our usual dinner, so whatever we would have on any other Tuesday, followed by sweet pancakes for dessert. My daughter is 15m so I'll probably do her a pancake for one meal with some fruit (likely breakfast) but if DH and I have any it'll probably be after dinner as a dessert.

karmakameleon · 12/02/2021 16:24

Last year we did sweet corn fritters as a type of savoury pancake.

Crockof · 12/02/2021 16:25

This is only a problem on MN.

Op, non MN people otherwise known as normal people have whatever they can be arsed to cook/have in the house and then have pancakes as well. Gosh, they usually have more than one, I think you have been spending too long on here as your post indicates that. 'Whiff of Lemon indeed!

MistleTOEboughski · 12/02/2021 16:26

We just have pancakes.

HelloDulling · 12/02/2021 16:27

Normally, a million pancakes.

Gliblet · 12/02/2021 16:27

We just have something like scrambled eggs on toast with pancakes for pudding.

My mum used to make a stuffed pancake meal for dinner on Shrove Tuesday though. Chopped ham, chicken and veg rolled up inside thick pancakes and baked in a savoury white sauce. Sort of an 80s English enchilada I suppose. DH and DS would be horrified if I served it up to them Grin

AppleKatie · 12/02/2021 16:29

Cheese and ham pancakes

Followed by pancakes and all the strawberries, ice cream and chocolate sauce

SausageCrush · 12/02/2021 16:31

We have savoury pancakes for dinner and sweet pancakes for pud.
Job done Grin

mootymoo · 12/02/2021 16:31

Savoury pancakes followed by sweet Smile. I'm doing mushrooms, spinach and creme fraiche. Finished under the grill topped with Parmesan cheese

mootymoo · 12/02/2021 16:32

Now if only you could still buy findus crispy pancakes ...

Ihatemyseleffordoingthis · 12/02/2021 16:36

we just have piles of pancakes
it starts with cheesy spinachy ones and at some point morphes into berry and yoghurty ones or lemony sugary ones
i deffo cba to cook another dinner too
as we're at home all day this year we might have them for lunch too

merryhouse · 12/02/2021 16:36

We just have a normal dinner.

I did try savoury pancakes once but we weren't overly impressed with them.

One lot of batter does about 2 each for four people, so it's not masses extra.

WunWun · 12/02/2021 16:40

We just eat pancakes until we feel sick.

Megan2018 · 12/02/2021 16:41

We will probably have a big lunch and then just piles of pancakes for dinner. I can eat 10 easily. Yum.

Megan2018 · 12/02/2021 16:41

@WunWun

@WunWun Grin same here. It’s the only way.
Misericordia · 12/02/2021 16:42

We have ham and cheese pancakes followed by pancakes with sweet fillings. Eg. Crushed pineapple, nutella, lemon and sugar

OnceUponAThread · 12/02/2021 16:42

Savoury here. Chicken, spinach and cheese crepes. Can't WAIT.

Pancakes pancakes and more pancakes.

purplecorkheart · 12/02/2021 16:45

We tend not to plan our meal around the pancakes to be honest. Non of us are a huge fan so tend to do crepe style with sugar and lemon.

ServeTheServants · 12/02/2021 16:48

Just a stack of pancakes here! If we were going to have a meal, I think we’d just do bacon and eggs beforehand.

DragonPoop · 12/02/2021 16:52

We usually have omelettes, followed by pancakes if we can be bothered lol

lancaster · 12/02/2021 16:54

Pancakes are dinner on Shrove Tuesday.
