I’ve bought some piklets in a fit of pique but I don’t know what to do with them.

They look lovely but I don’t know if to treat them as scones or pancake?

(I’m from the south so please excuse my ignorance)

The pikelets have been eaten.
I found them superior to crumpets.

The M&S ones are not bad at all but proper ones from a hole in the wall are so much better.

I like the eccles cakes and cheese scones from M&S - the loose ones are fab.

I remember when I lived in Derby I asked the bakers if they had any Eccles cakes. The woman looked at me like I was mad and said ‘well no, it’s Monday’, as if that was obvious.

Ooh, good thread!

And many topping options suggested.

@StanfordPines, mondays in Derby must be grim.

@MikeUniformMike

But in Yorkshire they call a bread roll a tea cake.
Perhaps in W Yorkshire, but generally that's a Lancashire thing, not a Yorkshire one. They're cobs in S Yorkshire
MikeUniformMike · 24/10/2020 14:04

It was W. Yorks. They are barm cakes in Lancs.

MikeUniformMike · 24/10/2020 14:06

I'd think of a cob as a certain type of roll, a barm cake another.

Teacake - has fruit in and it's toasted. I'm not from Yorkshire. I've moved around the country a fair bit.

Bread roll was bread cake in my W.Yorks family.

Unless it’s a Tunnocks tea cake which is a different thing again.

You have just inspired me to have crumpets and cheese for lunch. Thanks OP 😁

MikeUniformMike · 24/10/2020 14:20

@StanfordPines, probably the best teacake.

When things go wrong
And will not come right,
Though you do the best you can,
When life looks black
As the hour of night -
A stotty cake is your only man.
