I’ve bought some piklets in a fit of pique but I don’t know what to do with them.

They look lovely but I don’t know if to treat them as scones or pancake?

(I’m from the south so please excuse my ignorance)

Not scones, crumpets. Do I eat them like crumpets?

I eat them cold with butter, or toast them with butter. I am from Stoke where pikelets originate Smile

HavelockVetinari · 23/10/2020 19:08

Toasted with butter, obvs! They're basically thin crumpets.

GuyFawkesDay · 23/10/2020 19:09

Toast.
Add butter and sweet topping of your choice. Yummy

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 23/10/2020 19:09

Fit of pique? I'm intrigued Grin I've only ever had them once - seem to remember they're like crumpets, only pointless.

WunWun · 23/10/2020 19:09

Yeah, they're just crumpets. Put them in the toaster.

MikeUniformMike · 23/10/2020 19:11

warmed up and with butter.

You could put other toppings on if you like.

I think different regions have their own versions.

It was the Ocado going to M&S thing. I was unsettled and got excited.

You eat them roasted with butter or your topping of choice.
The best ones are the cheese ones.

foxyknoxy30 · 23/10/2020 19:16

Toasted with loads of butter mmmmmm

titchy · 23/10/2020 19:16

Just have them for breakfast! Toasted with salted butter obvs.

BoomyBooms · 23/10/2020 19:18

Toasted, buttered, fed to my 8 month old baby to be licked and then chucked on the floor.

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 23/10/2020 19:24

@StanfordPines completely understandable.

ShrikeAttack · 23/10/2020 19:30

I prefer piklets to crumpets, toast until slightly crunchy, loads of butter, strawberry jam.

ShowOfHands · 23/10/2020 19:44

Just like crumpets.

Butter and marmite
Butter and jam
Poached egg and avocado
Peanut butter
Hummus and cucumber
Cream cheese, cherry tomatoes and black pepper
Chocolate spread and berries
Honey and banana

The list is endless.

Ah. The husband is a midlander. He might have an opinion.

Toast then app!y:

-Melted cheese, tiny bit of mustard, mustard & cress
-Ditto above but with addition of slice of ham
-Butter, slice of ham with poached egg on top
-Butter and Marmite
-Butter and runny honey

doadeer · 23/10/2020 20:01

Toasted with loads of butter like a crumpet

Disfordarkchocolate · 23/10/2020 20:03

Toasted till nice and crispy then add a ridiculous amount of butter so it can drip on your chin. I wish I had some pikelets in my house.

Lulu1919 · 23/10/2020 20:08

Same as a crumpet ..toast

Rockbird · 23/10/2020 20:08

"Alexa, add Pikelets to Tesco shopping list"

StanfordPines · 23/10/2020 21:18

Picklets are from a certain part of the North. Not all northerners are the same. They're not a Newcastle thing. Sorry I'm just sick of all this covid stuff re 'the North' as if it's all th same. I know this isn't what you asked! Toast them really well and put loads of butter. Plus tea. Ideally on a rainy day. Enjoy!

Plussizejumpsuit · 23/10/2020 21:40

Also I fully identify with buying things especially food in fit of pique!

nocoolnamesleft · 23/10/2020 21:42

Ooh, Staffordshire oatcakes make a great breakfast. I like them with cheese and bacon.
