Nigella

Now the weather is cooler and the nights are darker, I'm feeling the need to snuggle up with Nigella's books and maybe even cook some of her recipes.

Has anybody got any real favourites? If savoury, I'm only here for vegetarian recipes. If sweet, I want it all!

Some of my favourites -
The blackberry crisp in Express
Barbados cream and baked plums in How to Eat
Chocolate Guiness cake in Feast

Anyone?

Her chocolate brownies are my favourite go-to brownie recipe.

Bearsbearsbears40 · 13/10/2020 20:11

The chocolate Guinness cake is amazing, I agree. Also chocolate fudge cake from Nigella Bites. I’ve also tried the Georgian cheese bread from Feast, but haven’t quite mastered it as yet. DH does cherry coke ham and it’s lovely. (I may have too many Nigella books).

MyCatReallyIsAGit · 13/10/2020 20:11

For savoury, I like the Tunisian root veg stew and couscous from Feast, though I do make it with lamb meatballs. I also want to try her involtini and mushroom stroganoff from this book.

For sweet - where to start?! Her sour cream chocolate cake (in both Feast and Domestic Goddess) is my go-to chocolate cake. Although I must confess I have worked my way through most of the chocolate chapter in Feast and there are no duds.Blush Her banana bread in Domestic Goddess is fantastic. And there’s a great apple tart in How To Eat.

Sorry I’ve only just read the word ‘vegetarian’ in your OP!

Chocolate peanut butter cheesecake in Kitchen. It’s heavenly!

homemadecommunistrussia · 13/10/2020 20:17

Pie insides from feast.

Bickles · 13/10/2020 20:18

Clementine cake

Lalalatte · 13/10/2020 20:21

They are called something like extremely chocotatey chocolate cookies from Express

homemadecommunistrussia · 13/10/2020 20:32

There's a chocolate loaf cake in feast with cocoa, chocolate chunks, chocolate syrup and grated chocolate on top. Just perfect. Also the malteser cake, but I never use the processor as I find it makes it a bit tough.

Bearsbearsbears40 · 13/10/2020 20:34

@nearlynermal - you’re right, I don’t know what I was thinking, typing that 😂😂

KetoPenguin · 13/10/2020 20:35

Anyone got her new book? I think it's called cook, eat repeat.

Takethewinefromtheswine · 13/10/2020 21:31

I read a lot of her books, but don't tend to cook much from them, largely because I try to avoid baking. Having said that, her recipes for pizza base, blueberry muffins and American style pancakes are my absolute go tos time and time again. I also have a great recipe of hers somewhere for a honey and pine nut semi freddo which is just fabulous.

MadauntofA · 13/10/2020 21:36

This is a favourite of mine

FaintlyMacabre · 13/10/2020 21:38

Banana bread, lemon drizzle and frangipane mince pies from Domestic Goddess.

waitingforadulthood · 13/10/2020 21:39

The Tunisian stew from feasts. The pumpkin lasagne from Christmas. The Christmas muffins and gingerbread stuffing from Christmas.

Which ever book, I think domestic goddess, has raspberry dohnut muffins. They are divine!

PurpleDaisies · 13/10/2020 21:40

I’ve made the involtini from the Feast book and it’s lovely.

I’ve also made most of the chocolate cake hall of fame. The quadruple chocolate cake is wonderful. Also the chocolate gingerbread without the icing.

I make the red spiced cabbage (with half the sugar) every Christmas. The red wine braised lentils are great with veggie sausages and freeze well.

karmakameleon · 13/10/2020 22:04

I think I’ve made nearly all her chocolate cakes from the Chocolate Cake Hall of Fame, and the quadruple chocolate loaf cake definitely wins.

Janevaljane · 13/10/2020 22:06

tomato curry with coconut rice
Penne alla vodka

Both delicious

sproutsandparsnips · 13/10/2020 22:07

Yes chocolate brownies in Domestic goddess, also millionaires shortbread, which I have adapted to make chocolate orange. Her plum and pecan crumble is lovely and I've used the topping for other crumbles.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 14/10/2020 08:51

Now I want everything! Thanks for these.

I'll definitely try more from the Chocolate Cake Hall of Fame.

Unfortunately it seems that many of her savoury veggie things rely on tomatoes.

Janevaljane · 14/10/2020 08:52

Are tomatoes an issue?!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 14/10/2020 08:52

The cauliflower salad looks lovely.
