Nigella

Now the weather is cooler and the nights are darker, I'm feeling the need to snuggle up with Nigella's books and maybe even cook some of her recipes.

Has anybody got any real favourites? If savoury, I'm only here for vegetarian recipes. If sweet, I want it all!

Some of my favourites -
The blackberry crisp in Express
Barbados cream and baked plums in How to Eat
Chocolate Guiness cake in Feast

Anyone?

It really is Remus - I make it most weeks, tend to add chopped aubergine sometime courgettes, and forget the pomegranate. Chickpeas in harissa roasted are lovely on their own too!

I forgot about the chocolate cherry trifle in the feast book. That’s a massive crowd pleaser.

I made Nigella's Old Rag pie the other day, an intriguing sweet and savoury Greek dish - it was amazing (and not a tomato in sight!)

Old rag pie sounds delicious.

Tomatoes are most definitely an issue!

I get indigestion just watching her programme - food is too rich and fatty. Yuk!

Thanks for the insight. There are a lot of cakes but there are also plenty of recipes for salads, fruit etc.

Chocolate fruitcake from Nigellas Christmas kitchen.

@RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie it says to leave it and I’ve left it and I’ve also eaten it straight away and both are good. If you leave it, it becomes more solid. Straight away it’s crumbly and lovely.

Does it keep @PotteringAlong?

I like the marzipan cake from Domestic Goddess. It's delicious and excellent for using up excess eggs!

Clementine cake (How to Eat)
birthday cake with custard powder (not sure what book)
dense chocolate loaf cake (how to be a domestic goddess)
New York Cheesecake (HTBADG)
Coconut cake (same book. Also known as Malibu cake in our house Wink)
Chocolate Pear pudding (dunno what book!)

Golden Root Vegetable TAGINE/couscous (How to Eat - has tomato but you could probably omit)

Erm - big fan of her sweet stuff obvs BlushBlushBlush

Her minestrone soup in How To Eat is gorgeous and not a tomato in sight.

@LBOCS2 when it’s started it rarely keeps very long Blush but I made it and kept for Christmas last year - probably about a month I think?

I make (far too often):
Sweet Lamb Tajine from Feast
and
Chocolate Olive Oil Cake from Nigellisima (though I get the recipe from her website)
Which I make with GF flour and it works well (can also use just ground almonds)

No tomatoes in either

Love all of Nigellissima - the yoghurt cake is simple and beautiful.

Out of all the other books - what is best for a fairly lazy cook?!

I can't choose what to start with now - will definitely make at least one of the chocolate cakes over half term.

Her haddock fish pie is excellent and good for this weather - go into her website and get the recipe a day or Twitter and lots of great recipes

Thanks, Anon, but I need veggie recipes.

I don't need online recipes, as have got several of her books, but was just interested in which ones people on here swear by.

And lists of cakes are making me happy now the evenings are so dark! Grin

Ha sorry - if only I could remove my post! I've had the nigella Christmas chocolate fruitcake on my list for two christmases to make as so many rave about it.

Well, given that last year's cake didn't actually get touched and I still have it, that sounds perfect @PotteringAlong 😁
