Nigella

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 13/10/2020 18:29

Now the weather is cooler and the nights are darker, I'm feeling the need to snuggle up with Nigella's books and maybe even cook some of her recipes.

Has anybody got any real favourites? If savoury, I'm only here for vegetarian recipes. If sweet, I want it all!

Some of my favourites -
The blackberry crisp in Express
Barbados cream and baked plums in How to Eat
Chocolate Guiness cake in Feast

Anyone?

Dense Chocolate Loaf Cake from HTBADG has been a fave of mine for many years, but I've never tried the quadruple chocolate loaf cake. Has anyone tried both? Which was better??

Catinabox21 · 15/10/2020 20:17

Also great: peanut butter cheesecake, sweet and salty peanut biscuits (Goddess), banana bread, apple and cinnamon muffins (Kitchen, nice for this time of year too) and of course the Guinness cake.

For vegetarian, recently tried her sweet potato tacos from At My Table - good!

SometimesItRains · 15/10/2020 20:38

My favourite is the chocolate orange cake from domestic goddess - it’s so easy to knock up. Malteser cake from Feast is also up there and is the most asked for birthday cake in this house. Veggie wise I love her mushroom stroganoff from Feast.

plominoagain · 15/10/2020 20:43

We alternate between the Malteser cake from Feast and the Devils food cake from Kitchen . So much chocolate . Gingerbread muffins are a winter winner too .

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 15/10/2020 20:44

Ooh the tacos sound nice. And all of the cakes - obvs. Grin

Salted chocolate torte from Nigellissima. You're welcome.

Stalker fan here - I have been to several book launches and have nearly all of my books signed by her.

Smile The Guardian has a few recipes from her new book today, but nothing I'd want to cook/eat unfortunately.

I am sure this is the recipe my friend's sister makes. It is very moist and moreish. She is usually such a helath nazi but this cake she does make!

Deathraystare · 17/10/2020 17:59

Health nazi I mean!

IndigoApple · 17/10/2020 18:00

I love Nigella. Enjoying the re runs of Simply Nigella and At My Table on iplayer. I've ordered the new book so roll on the 29th. I didn't read the recipes in last week's Guardian as didn't want to spoil the excitement of the book!

I'm afraid I've not tried many if any of her veggie recipes.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 17/10/2020 18:44

I can't stand watching her, but love reading her.

Her Mexican lasagne is a firm family favourite here. It's veggie - we're not, but it's lovely and even better the next day as leftovers too!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 17/10/2020 19:51

Tinned tomatoes though! It looks like nearly all of her veggie recipes are based on the flipping horrible things.

The rocky road from Express is good. Also love the involtini from Feast.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 18/10/2020 10:24

More tomatoes! Oh, Nigella, it looks like you've failed me. 😐

Chocolate raspberry pavlova is the go to dessert and unanimously voted best dessert all time by everyone in the family. And now I can make it without referring to the recipe and super quickly. The moussi-ness of the meringue is very special.

Following behind in no particular order.

Lemon drizzle cake
Chocolate chip cookies
Trifle
Clémentine cake.
Red velvet cake (the page in the cookbook is covered in stains -red)

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 20/10/2020 18:11

The pavlova sounds delicious. I'm not very good at meringues, although I'm not a bad cook.

We love greek lamb stew and her meatballs

paintmywholehousecobweb · 21/10/2020 21:31

Chilli jam & cappuccino pavlova!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 22/10/2020 18:41

Sadly no good to me though, Ginger.

I love chilli jam - will definitely look out for that recipe.

I know Nigella is not everyones cup of tea, but I'm a bit of a fan girl, I've never had a fail from her recipes, and even though some of the ingredients are at the luxury end- its largely faff free.

My faves are:-

Chocolate Guinness cake
Jam Doughnut muffins
Sweet and salty peanut biscuits
Lemon gems
Roxanne millionaire shortbread
Star topped mince pies
Thyme and lemon bundt cake
Salted chocolate cake
Split pea soup with chilli, lime & ginger
Halloumi with chilli
Roast stuffed pumpkin

Loads of others but they are not veggie and this would be a looong list Blush

paintmywholehousecobweb · 23/10/2020 20:13

It's really good & easy to make @RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie

Love Nigella's books and her style of writing. I have Feast open on the coffee table and we are having the involtini tonight for dinner 😊

To the poster who made the Georgian Cheese Bread from Feast, how did it turn out and do you have any tips? I'm making it at the weekend.

jennymac · 01/11/2020 22:18

Our faves are the meatballs and the lemon risotto from Nigella Bites and the old fashioned chocolate cake and the lemon chicken from Feasts. The kids insist on the chocolate cake for every birthday. It keeps really well also.

Takethewinefromtheswine · 01/11/2020 23:33

Got the new book this weekend and read it this evening with a pot of tea and a cat. Very wordy and very comforting, a lovely read. I may even cook some things from it. Quite meaty, but lots of "make it vegetarian by..." type options.
