What are you still finding it hard to source?

I’ve been going to my local Sainsbury’s each Wednesday morning for my family’s essential shopping and finding some of the same stuff week after week is still really hard if not impossible to get.

Flour of any kind
Peanut butter
Rice
Baking powder (though scored a box of 6 sachets today!)
Caster sugar
Dried beans

Conversely, I have had no problems whatsoever getting eggs or bread, or meat or fresh produce, since the beginning of the lockdown. There was a weird period a couple of weeks ago when reasonably priced wine was scarce but thank god that’s been sorted.

What’s still missing from your supermarket shelves?

Scruffyoak · 16/04/2020 14:01

Quorn.

AnnPerkins · 16/04/2020 14:09

Thanks Massivejugs. Looks like everything's out of stock though.

Lovemusic33 · 16/04/2020 17:19

scruffyoak I’m finding it hard to buy quorn nuggets, dd has a limited diet and only really eats 3 different meals, one being quorn nuggets.

ParisInTheSpringtime · 16/04/2020 17:20

Flour and yeast.

midnightstar66 · 16/04/2020 17:21

I was in Tesco yesterday and they had absolutely everything apart from value pasta. More expensive brands were available though (and I forgot to look for yeast)

midnightstar66 · 16/04/2020 17:22

Oh and hand sanitiser gel but i think that goes without saying

mencken · 16/04/2020 17:24

rice, apart from boil in the bag muck at crazy prices.

about to buy a sack of it from ebay at a mere double the normal price.

Aldi today seemed well stocked with everything else, around 1030am if that helps.

PerplexingWords · 16/04/2020 17:25

Bread flour. DH got some plain in Waitrose, but I'm fed up with soda bread already and just want one of our normal loaves.

Ragwort · 16/04/2020 17:25

I’ve been able to get everything I want, fortunately haven’t needed to buy flour so haven't looked for any.

Only thing I couldn’t find last week when shopping for a neighbour was celery !

midnightstar66 · 16/04/2020 17:26

@mencken have you checked tesco. Even our small one as well as normal sized bags had the big sacks in the world food aisle.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 16/04/2020 17:26

Flour!!!!

YouAndMeAreGoingToFallOut · 16/04/2020 17:37

Condensed milk
Flour
Yeast

Knowhowufeel2 · 16/04/2020 18:58

I've not really needed to shop, but according to family, etc:

Flour (all types),
Peanut butter,
Tinned tomatoes (& don't stay in stock long)
Dishwasher tablets
Dishwasher salt
Lasagne sheets
Frozen peppers

Knowhowufeel2 · 16/04/2020 19:05

I'm lucky that my usually delivery of flour came before this started, so I've 16kgs (minus what we've already used) each of strong, self raising and plain.
As you can probably tell, we love baking in our house.
I don't buy bread though, I make my own (for the last 7 years anyway), and as it's sourdough I don't need yeast.

Knowhowufeel2 · 16/04/2020 19:08

One thing I've not been able to get for my dh is Shreddies, branded or otherwise, but it's not essential, so we're using up our other cereals first even though he's not so keen.

VictoriaBun · 16/04/2020 19:09

Flour
Babybels
Hand wash ( still )
Kelly's ice cream
Peppermint tea bags
Quorn

DuncinToffee · 16/04/2020 19:18

Flour
Yeast
Soap
5 spice
Capers
Curry paste

notrub · 16/04/2020 19:20

It depends where I go.

My local Morrisons sells out of most fresh veg/milk in the morning and not seen any pasta there for a bit, nor flour. However my local Aldi has tons of pasta, milk and veg - didn't look for flour there as I have plenty for the time being. In fact, the only thing missing at Aldi was leafy veg, but I do tend to go at 9pm at night.

Longdistance · 16/04/2020 19:32

Eggs. My dds love eating eggs in any form, scrambled, omelette, boiled, fried, poached. It’s been a ball ache to get. Normally it’s all there.

I’m not bothered with flour as we had some in the baking cupboard and sil gave us some before she move back to Oz. We made rolls, but meh!

I’m pissed we can’t get eggs. You can buy cakes, so I can’t see why everyone is baking fancying themselves as Mary Berry 🙄 sending dh tomorrow out to source some —and wine—
