What are you still finding it hard to source?

I’ve been going to my local Sainsbury’s each Wednesday morning for my family’s essential shopping and finding some of the same stuff week after week is still really hard if not impossible to get.

Flour of any kind
Peanut butter
Rice
Baking powder (though scored a box of 6 sachets today!)
Caster sugar
Dried beans

Conversely, I have had no problems whatsoever getting eggs or bread, or meat or fresh produce, since the beginning of the lockdown. There was a weird period a couple of weeks ago when reasonably priced wine was scarce but thank god that’s been sorted.

What’s still missing from your supermarket shelves?

I have some fresh yeast I'm happy to give some away if anyone would like some and is local in hastings Sussex and able to pick it up when they are shopping / going to work , (sorry I cannot post out ) but please don't break the lockdown rules you really must be local

Yawnfest · 15/04/2020 22:28

Any flour, yeast and eggs.

PurpleDaisies · 15/04/2020 22:28

Maple syrup

ByeByeMissAmericanPie · 15/04/2020 22:36

I bought a 500g of fresh yeast off a bakers on eBay. Not sure if he’s still selling it. I divided it up and put it in the freezer.

Now flour is another matter!

Notso · 15/04/2020 22:36

Bread flour.

Muddlewitch · 15/04/2020 22:38

Flour and hot chocolate here. Most other things I've been able to get even if not the usual versions.

PickAChew · 15/04/2020 22:38

Just flour. I score the odd bag but not enough to go back to making most of my bread.

Plenty of pasta in markses for the past few weeks. Often end up buying duck eggs since we get through lots of them but they're delicious and huge so we don't care.

blue25 · 15/04/2020 22:40

Tinned tomatoes

SanFrancisco49er · 15/04/2020 22:41

Flour, pasta, passata, anti bac wipes, handwash, cleaning spray. Everything else is well supplied in my local Waitrose.

TheSmallAssassin · 15/04/2020 22:41

Apparently there is no shortage of flour, but the vast majority of what we produce usually goes for commercial baking. The demand for domestic flour has shot up and the packaging for these smaller bags is in short supply. That's why there is plenty of bread in the shops, but no flour.

missmouse101 · 15/04/2020 22:45

Handwash, tinned tomatoes, pasta and disinfectant spray and wipes.

whatsthebestname · 15/04/2020 22:46

Condensed milk. All the greedy folks round here are making truffles, cheesecakes, fudge & tablet! Total shortage.
Can get toilet rolls, pasta, flour, yeast and even hand sanitiser no problem!

user127819 · 15/04/2020 22:50

Bread flour. We can sometimes get self-raising flour, but never bread flour. Lots of sugar and eggs though.

Historyofeverything1 · 15/04/2020 23:02

Frozen cauliflower, onions and peppers,
Rice,
Skimmed milk,
Baked beans,
All seem consistently missing.

Often I have to pick frozen vegetables thqt are available not what we fancy (the kids are fed up of green beans).

HarrietTheShy · 15/04/2020 23:38

Flour. Drowning in eggs, potatoes, veg, milk, pasta.

CoronaIsShit · 15/04/2020 23:46

Branston baked beans - no other bean cuts it!

Tesco spreadable butter - it’s completely disappeared off the shelves and Anchor and Lurpak don’t compare.

Eggs - still none left when I shop in the PM as I don’t want to go early and queue. Luckily DH has been finding them near his work.

Found peanut butter yesterday though and rationing pancakes so have enough flour.

Gemma2019 · 15/04/2020 23:48

I've been lucky for the last couple of weeks as I've been able to get everything I need.

Just to say you can easily make caster sugar and icing sugar from normal granulated sugar if you have a decent blender or food processor. Maybe google your model and check what blade to use first so it doesn't turn to dust!

JustCantShakeIt · 15/04/2020 23:50

Oh and unrefined sugar. The only sugar I can find is the white stuff which is stacked up, but is too sweet for us now. God knows why people are suddenly buying all the brown stuff Hmm.

TheStarryNight · 16/04/2020 02:33

Eggs, rice, gf flour

dogcrazy · 16/04/2020 02:37

Nothing here exc

Fairylillie · 16/04/2020 02:42

Hand wash, eggs, cake mix (my four year old keeps asking for Paw Patrol and Peppa Pig (not that I can get an egg to make it with either)), chopped tomatoes, part baked bread rolls, salmon fillets, pasta, rice....

joystir59 · 16/04/2020 02:50

Plain flour
Bread flour
Self raising flour

MilkRunningOutAgain · 16/04/2020 10:31

Flour of all sorts
Dried beans / peas / lentils, though I did get some tinned kidney beans last week
Soap of any sort
Broccoli

Pasta and rice are back in stock now locally, though the brands available are different and little choice

My main problem is getting wood shavings for the guinea pigs. I’m Getting Desperate.

AppleKatie · 16/04/2020 10:45

I’ve got flour! So excited to find it this morning after a FB tip off! We apparently have none in a massive town but a tiny village up the road has a surplus. Bizarre!

AnnPerkins · 16/04/2020 13:59

I can't get gluten free flour or lasagne sheets.

I paid £££ for broccoli from our veg delivery man yesterday. I assumed they're struggling to get it picked.
