Im currently obsessed with Greek yogurt for breakfast.
What's your favorite topping combination?
I've usually have chopped banana, mixed berries, chopped nuts and honey.
I've recently had it with chopped kiwi and mango which was also delicious.
Just wondering what everyone else has so I can possibly steal your ideas? Grin

Remus - not all Premier Inns, tends to be the larger, newer ones, esp in seaside resorts, that also don’t look alarmed if you ask for Quorn sausage rather than meat with breakfast.
Although I can see it’s very easy for them along with the tinned pineapple and frozen berries, I love that it adds a little bit of out of the ordinariness. I admit I am at the stage of child rearing where I get ridiculously excited about a night away in a budget hotel chain, so this will not be interesting to the vast majority of people [tired mum who works long hours and never goes “out” emoticon]

I make srikand (a sieved yoghurt) out of it by draining it over the sink into a muslin cloth until it’s fairly solid. Then mixing it with mango pulp and boiled saffron, and topping with dessicated coconut, crushed almonds and pistacios.

woodencoffeetable · 09/04/2020 13:43

overnight oats soaked in the yoghurt.

add some raisins/other dried fruit and a sprinkle of dried ginger.

OllyBJolly · 09/04/2020 13:48

Tinned apricots, rhubarb or prunes with granola or the little tubs of seeds and cranberries you get at Lidl checkouts. that's my summer breakfast. I'm in Scotland so still on my winter porridge (same toppings)

AgeLikeWine · 09/04/2020 13:49

First, choose the right yogurt. Lidl’s Milbona low-fat Greek is easily the best product on the market.

I usually have mine with chopped banana or some sort of cooked fruit such as apple & blackberry & crunchy nutty granola. Jordans country crisp is good.

This turmeric granola recipe, and some fruit. I first tried this recipe as I was intrigued but it's honestly the best granola I've tasted, very good if you don't have a sweet tooth.

Perfidy · 09/04/2020 13:54

Fruit and nut mixture on top and honey with raspberries.

Chilli sauce swirled in, lime juice and fresh coriander, lovely on salmon.

hoovermyrug · 09/04/2020 13:54

Scrum shus granola and honey and strawberries is my favourite

Swearwolf · 09/04/2020 13:56

I make overnight oats - couple of handfuls of oats, little apple juice to cover the oats, frozen raspberries, apple and peach pieces, few spoonfuls of Greek yogurt to fill it up and some sunflower seeds on top. I build it before bed and then I don't have to do anything in the morning - really useful for days I'm in the office (in my normal life)!

Thanks, Quince. I'm yearning for a night in a hotel now!

If anybody is greedy like me, one of my favourite breakfasts is:
toasted Scotch pancakes
Greek yoghurt
banana, blueberries, seeds, honey
Like a hipster cafe, but costs pennies!

Alwayscheerful · 11/04/2020 22:28

Raspberries and pomegranate syrup.

StCharlotte · 11/04/2020 22:34

Fig jam. Yum.

Bakedpotatoandgin · 11/04/2020 22:44

Brown sugar and cocoa powder blended in to make a kind of toffee chocolate yoghurt, with sliced or mashed banana

TooGood2BeTrue · 11/04/2020 22:48
  • Walnuts and honey
  • Pureed pears with some grated chocolate
  • Granola
  • Blitzed frozen berries
  • Blitzed mango
  • Pomegranate seeds
  • Vanilla custard
  • Vanilla sugar
AdoraBell · 11/04/2020 22:49

Homemade granola, either chopped pear or frozen berries/fresh berries in summer. Tiny amount of cinnamon. Occasionally a drizzle of maple syrup or honey.

Lifeaback · 11/04/2020 22:52

Usually just granola and honey but with more time on my hands I’ve started grilling tinned peaches in a frying pan with a bit of brown sugar and cinnamon. Definitely not the healthiest but it’s delicious!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 11/04/2020 22:54

Life - that sounds gorgeous!

fitflopqueen · 13/04/2020 22:02

homemade granola - so you can adjust how sweet it is and what is in it
i use coconut oil, maple syrup, some chopped almonds mixed up with oats and lightly baked.
I defrost some raspberries, add granola and top with yoghurt, the one breakfast i can eat everyday.

Lemonysherbet · 13/04/2020 22:04

Chopped up banana, defrosted frozen raspberries and a sprinkle of granola- its like eating cheesecake for breakfast, truly the breakfast of dreams (for a heavily pregnant me anyway!)

CanIDigIt · 13/04/2020 22:08

Bircher (moma gluten free)
Juice (not orange)
Linseeds
Prebiotic powder
Sieved Greek yoghurt (like Total but supermarket brand - £1.39 Aldi - £1.89 Waitrose find your range Smile
Berries or mango or pineapple (I have oral allergy so can't eat tree fruits. So basically any fruit)

Can you spot a constipated lady Grin

NiteFlights · 13/04/2020 22:09

Maple syrup & some dried fruit
Manuka honey
Cold stewed apple
Chestnut purée
Apricot jam
Just plain Smile
I’m a big Lidl fan but I like Yeo Valley yogurt

Rio5555 · 13/04/2020 22:12

Some great topping ideas to try. Although goats yoghurt for me...it’s the creamiest ever and probably horrifically calorific but amazing

whatisheupto · 13/04/2020 22:26

Love this thread!
Lemon zest and chia seeds and any of those packets of "healthy powders" in health food shops!

DustyD2 · 13/04/2020 22:27

Skyr natural yoghurt, fresh berries (raspberries are best!) And a spoon of crunchy peanut butter. Yum and full until lunch

Sammysquiz · 13/04/2020 22:44

Some lovely ideas here.

Keen to try the Lidl yoghurt. My current favourites are the Waitrose one someone mentioned up thread or the Tesco Finest one but both are quite pricey. I like it to be a proper Greek yoghurt (ie thick enough to stick a spoon upright in!) and full-fat (I’ve yet to find a low-fat one I like the taste of).
