Quorn makes my family ill

Worst parent award goes to me after a couple months of my daughter getting sick on and off ,vomiting diarrhoea and now a rash I’ve discovered the cause is quorn! And only because my partner had some and the same happened to him ,The company say it’s something like 1 in 200000 people will get a reaction to it but that’s two just in my household ,Anyone else intolerant to quorn ? it’s an interesting one

Sounds awful.

No, we’re fine with quorn here. Love it.

Sandsnake · 29/01/2019 21:59

Yes, me. Bad diarrhoea and rash / hives; had it about three times and it’s got worse each time so now I don’t go near it. I’ve certainly heard of others experiencing similar, so those figures seem unlikely!

Corcra · 29/01/2019 22:01

Yes. I can’t eat quorn. I get awful cramps.

pisspawpatrol · 29/01/2019 22:02

Lots of people have this intolerance. It gives me the symptoms of gastroenteritis.

ItsHardToExplain · 29/01/2019 22:06

I thought most people are intolerant or allergic to Quorn

Arkos · 29/01/2019 22:06

I can't tolerate it... serious shits.

CleverWittyUsername · 29/01/2019 22:07

Yes same here! Makes me so ill with stomach-flu type symptoms, agony. Never heard of anyone else having this so makes me feel less odd, thanks.

Iwantedtrianglesnotsquares · 29/01/2019 22:08

My husband is. Makes visiting his vegetarian brother interesting...

IncomingCannonFire · 29/01/2019 22:09

Me and dh both get stomach cramps and diarrhoea. Ive told my kid never to choose it off the school menu. He was a colicky baby with digestive problems he's now grown out off, but I'm not risking it.

origamiwarrior · 29/01/2019 22:19

Yep, had it on Saturday and I was straight on the toilet with the shits. DH and DD fine. I vaguely recall having the same symptoms last time I cooked with it (I remember googling and seeing that this was a 'thing') hence not having cooked with it since, but the 'mince' was on special offer at Tesco so thought I'd give it a go.

Won't be eating it again!

whiteworld · 29/01/2019 22:21

My h is the same. We don’t buy it.

HeronLanyon · 29/01/2019 22:22

Interesting. Had a quorn ‘ham’ sandwich (don’t know why I don’t just have salad and mayo/mustard sandwich as it’s the mustard I want). Resurgence of odd skin excema-like patch on my arm. Not had for ages. Wonder if it was that ?? Hadn’t heard about quite andnallergies.

IamPickleRick · 29/01/2019 22:23

Didn’t have the reaction before but do now. Started about 10 years ago Sad It’s much more common than they advertise.

Surfingtheweb · 29/01/2019 22:23

No I don't eat it, my step child does as they are a veggie, but I make most of our veggie meals with lentils as a substitute for meat, so just thought I'd pop by and mention that.
This recipe is so much nicer than meat chilli & a billion times nicer than quorn Grin

Yes me. Makes me very sick and gives my bad stomach cramps. We never eat it for this reason. Most people I know love it!!

RitaFairclough · 29/01/2019 22:27

I’ve been vegetarian for about 100 years and waaaay back when Quorn first came out and was basically mince or chunks, I couldn’t eat it because it really disagreed with me. Now I can eat most of it, but not sure if it has changed or me.

Ragh · 29/01/2019 22:28

DH is allergic to mushrooms and quorn makes him projectile vomit as it's mushroom protein

I can't eat quorn it gives me the squits some people can't tolerate it !

ThisMustBeMyDream · 29/01/2019 22:36

No reaction here in the 25 years me, my family, and now my children (and 3 different partners over those years) have been eating it.

RJnomore1 · 29/01/2019 22:38

I'm the same too, I'm sure I read 20% of people are intolerant.

I had a very painful introduction to vegetarianism in the 90s before I realised.

getback · 29/01/2019 22:39

Quorn is nothing to do with mushrooms. That's a marketing link to make people think it has some kind of plant based or natural origin. It is a fungus of sorts, but the mould kind not the mushroom kind.

Joinourclub · 29/01/2019 22:41

I've never had a problem with quorn and I've eaten loads over the years. I don't eat as much as I used to though as I have got better at cooking and rely less on meat substitutes.
