What was the last thing you made in the slow cooker?

I usually love cooking but I have a very active 18 month old and am 4/5 weeks pregnant and exhausted already. So, I'm hoping to use my slow cooker a bit more. I recently made chilli which was lovely and making beef and tomato casserole next week, but looking for some other ideas.

What was the last thing you made in the slow cooker?

Thai green chicken curry.

I love that I can put frozen chicken breasts in there, add stuff and leave

They just need shredding when cooked. Love my slow cooker!

foodiefil · 16/09/2018 20:23

@SevenOf1981 can you?! Can you give me that recipe please.

Always do gammon joint in there. Nothing else but the joint. Stick it in on low until we're ready to eat it 🤷🏻‍♀️

Want to do chicken curry tomorrow - any recipes?! Xx

SevenOf1981 · 16/09/2018 20:37

Hey @foodiefil
Yes, anything I cook in a pan, I've attempted in the cooker.

Curry, oil, garlic, ginger, onion, spices.of choice (curry powder and chilli here) chopped tomatoes, coriander and chicken. Frozen or otherwise.

Leave for however long you're out.

Once you're back or whatever leave the lid off if it's a bit liquidy. Stir in some natural yoghurt and garam masala.

Leave until you're ready.

The Thai curry was similar, just used Thai paste and coconut milk and left the chicken in that to cook.

There's also a BBC good food recipe for quick chicken pie.
It's lovely done as it says, but you could make the filling in the slow cooker, then just top with ready rolled puff pastry and cook in the oven.

picklemepopcorn · 16/09/2018 21:04

Jacket potatoes

Lamb shoulder

Chocolateismyvice · 17/09/2018 11:01

Ooh, some lovely ideas here and ones I wouldn't have thought of! Especially fancying chicken fajitas and rice pudding at this very moment!

Thanks everyone, will have a proper look through later. Hopefully I can try some out before my nausea hits Grin

@blorgzorb yummy! Would you mind posting the recipe?

I've just dragged my slow cooker out for the first time since January. I'm making a WW beef casserole. I love how it gradually fills the house with delicious smells, and makes me feel super on top of things. 😆

Overnight porridge was the reason I bought the slow cooker, when the DC were little. I thought I'd be the ultimate domestic goddess with hot, delicious porridge ready st dawn on cold mornings.... It was a disaster, the top always went black and the kids would look at me in tearful horror and say, "Please don't say we have to eat this, mummy."

But stews are fab. I must admit I use my Instant Pot pressure cooker more. That's also a slow cooker, but I haven't read the instructions for that function yet. 😆

Have fun!

We use ours a lot. Most recently...

Pulled pork for wraps
Veg tagine (chickpea/butternut)
Goat curry, caribbean type
Lamb jalfrezi - this was amazing
Beef and mushroom stew

Layered Chicken Stuffing Bake

Chopped up chicken thigh fillets, half a can of condensed cream of chicken soup, layer of chopped ham, layer of cheese, rest of the can of soup. Top with a packet of stuffing mix (dry). Cook on low all day.
