I usually love cooking but I have a very active 18 month old and am 4/5 weeks pregnant and exhausted already. So, I'm hoping to use my slow cooker a bit more. I recently made chilli which was lovely and making beef and tomato casserole next week, but looking for some other ideas.

What was the last thing you made in the slow cooker?

Beef cheeks and I am already dreaming about them again because they were so delicious.

NapoleonsNose · 22/09/2018 21:19

Chilli, made with stewing steak not mince. Love my slow cooker, especially at this time of year.

Spanish chicken. I would love recipe for chocolate cake! I'm 33 weeks pregnant with a 17 month old so using slow cooker a lot too!

Jaysus. If you fancy hanging on to your guts for as long as possible then please dont put anything other than frozen veg in the slow cooker. It never gets hot enough to kill the bacteria that resides in around 90% of all chicken. It might look cooked through and touchwood you'll probably be fine but I wouldnt chance it. Best to defrost it in the fridge the night before.

Tomorrow I'm doing Gammon in my small pot and chilli hot choc in my big one. It's so gorgeous. Silky. Moreish. Creamy...

blueskiespls · 23/09/2018 09:21

Just stuck a gammon in... not very exciting. But with potatoes, salad and pickles tonight, already can't wait for dinner!

Wildernesstips · 23/09/2018 13:12

I made plum and almond upside down puddings in mine last weekend, beef stew and dumplings yesterday.

I'm not sure I would fancy putting frozen chicken in.

I'm going to do Basque Chicken tomorrow. I find its one of those things I use loads and then hardly at all.

sashh · 23/09/2018 13:18

Roast lamb.

Before tat was a steak pudding, slow cookers are great for cooking suet.

I quite often do pork ribs in passatta with canelleni beans

Inkythemouse · 23/09/2018 13:31

@Wildernesstips could I have your plum and almond pudding recipe please?

Over the past 2 weeks I've made
Chinese pork belly
Whole garlic chicken
Sausage casserole
Honey garlic chicken
Caramel apple crumble
Rice pudding

Roomba · 23/09/2018 13:34

Creamy Chicken Tarragon Casserole... yum! I have a 6L slow cooker so made double with the intention of freezing half for next week. Unfortunately it was so tasty everyone demanded seconds, thirds, and so on until it was all gone Blush

Plum & Almond pudding

Butter 4 pudding moulds and add a tbsp golden syrup and half tbsp brown sugar to each. Add chopped plums to cover bottom.

Mix up sponge: 50g each of butter, caster sugar, SR flour, 25g ground almonds, 1 egg, almond essence and a tbsp milk. Add to moulds.

Pour boiling water to half way. Cover each with buttered foil and place in slow cooker. Cook on high for 2 1/2 hrs.

Recipe from 200 Slow Cooker Recipes (Hamlyn) which has some really good recipes.

Wildernesstips · 23/09/2018 14:48

Boiling water goes in slow cooker not pudding moulds (like a Bain Marie)

chillandrelax · 23/09/2018 14:56

Fudge.

bellsbuss · 23/09/2018 15:16

Chilli with chunks of beef not mince

ineedwine99 · 23/09/2018 17:10

@chillandrelax how do you do fudge??

PanamaPattie · 23/09/2018 17:17

Today, I have two on the go. One is silverside of beef which I will use with mash, veg and onion gravy later. I'll use some of the beef (pulled) in warm baguettes tomorrow and the left over meat for stew on Tuesday. The second one has got a rice pudding ticking over.

SophieHattersStick · 23/09/2018 17:21

Really interested to hear about how to make fudge in it!

NoLeslie · 23/09/2018 17:23

Whatever I make tastes like stew. I just wanted to say you will never be as exhausted as during early pregnancy with a toddler. I promise it gets better. Brew

FuzzBallMushroomP · 23/09/2018 17:26

Oooh I made curried cod last week. It was actually really good. Got the recipe from The Organised Mum website. Lots of easy slow cooker recipes on there.

HollyBollyBooBoo · 23/09/2018 17:27

Shoulder of pork. Take off all the fat (make crackling if you want in the oven).

Pour over some stock and white wine, seasoning and a bay leaf. Cook on low overnight. Pull it and serve in rolls with stuffing and apple sauce. AMAZING!

Giggorata · 23/09/2018 17:31

I've got chicken casserole in it, ready to eat now.

I've got 2 slow cookers, too. I have a lot of vegetarian friends, so can do two versions of dinner, or else use one for soups or puddings

QueenOfMyWorld · 23/09/2018 17:34

I always cook a beef joint in my slow cooker 10pm overnight til morning and the meat is so soft and tender

chillandrelax · 23/09/2018 18:31

@ineedwine99

500g chocolate ( I use milk and white chocolate)
1 Tbs butter
1 tsp vanilla essence
A tin of sweetened condensed milk

Bung it all in the slow cooker for 2-3 hours, stir regularly. Leave in fridge for 2-3 to set. Although I think it's better if left overnight.

PaulMorel · 24/09/2018 08:05

I usually cook tender beef brisket for my family every Sunday. It's their favorite.

HollyBollyBooBoo · 26/09/2018 04:31

@Roomba that chicken casserole sounds amazing! Any chance of the recipe?! Thanks.
