OK, my salad normally consists of lettace, spring onion, cucumber, grated carrot and grated cheese with a little light salad cream.
I think its about time i tried something new. I don't like tomatoes though. Or tuna/fishy stuff!
TIA

Olives. walnuts. Avocado. You could try feta cheese instead. Try some different leaves - rocket or that frissy stuff (what's it called) or some lollo rosso. Mkae your own vinaigrette with walnut or olive oil and some wine vinegar, or balsamic vinegar. I love salads

I've just had salad for my lunch:-

baby leaf salad (from a bag)
celery
beetroot
feta cheese
peppers
basil infused olive oil for dressing

I had falafel and tzatziki with it

hope this gives some ideas

franca70 · 02/05/2007 13:13

falafel? borlotti beans? half boiled egg? sweetcorn?

purpleturtle · 02/05/2007 13:13

radishes, celery, raisins, mange tout

WanderingTrolley · 02/05/2007 13:13

raw courgettes and peppers
pine nuts
beetroot
pasta

head for m&s for ideas - they do salad boxes to die for imo

ShowOfHands · 02/05/2007 13:14

Yes try different leaves, grapes, radish, peppers, cress, mange tout and freshly ground black pepper.

franca70 · 02/05/2007 13:14

pumkin seeds.

Carmenere · 02/05/2007 13:14

Just about everything goes in my salads.
Beans - butterbeans or french beans blanched are good.
Olives
Blanched brocolli/cauliflower
Croutons
Bacon grilled and chopped into little bits
Boiled eggs
cold potatoes
Asian salads are fab with cold noodles and soy and sesame dressings.

I had the most amazing salad in Brasil last week which was simply julienned raw beetroot mixed with julienned raw carrot and small pieces of pineapple served on a bed of lettuce with a little olive oil and chilli vinegar drizzled over. Simple and totally delicious.

last night:

couscous ("cooked" by soaking in boiling water with cling film over bowl)
mixture of seeds sprinkled over (sunflower, sesame etc)
chopped up cucumber, tomato, spring onions, avocado
tinned salmon (but did same with leftover chicken the other night)
drizzle of pizza express dressing/lemon juice
capers
chopped up jalapeno chillis

ohhh my DP makes an Ibizian special.
It's got cos lettuce, spme yoghurty dressing, mozzerela, oh what else, walnuts, ohh I'll have to ask him, it's FAB.

i'm currently having cos lettuce, chicken, crispy bacon, crotons and ceaser dressing.

twelveyeargap · 02/05/2007 13:15

Toasted pine nuts and sesame seeds. Raddish. Lightly stir fried and cooled mange tout or sugar snap peas. Make a ceasar salad with vegetarian ceasar dressing to avoid the anchovies in the sauce.

Has no one mentioned beetroot yet?

ComeOVeneer · 02/05/2007 13:20

A sprinkling of toated pine nuts always adds to any salad. I love mixed bean salad. I do kidney beans, sweetcorn, blanched french beans, chickpeas, finely chopped marinaded pimentos (from a jar)and aduki beans just with a splash of white wine vinegar, salt and pepper. Lovely and very healthy (Low GI/low fat)

nappyaddict · 02/05/2007 13:21

chicken, avocado and bacon
chicken with a ceasar dressing
bbq chicken salad

bundle · 02/05/2007 13:22

oh yes northerner, love it with goat's cheese, red onions and a spicy dressing

also - pink grapefruit slices with thinly sliced fennel & dressing made with the grapefruit juice/olive oil

drool

That's cos Beetroot is minging!

Except I happen to love someone who shares the name, but the vegetable itself is MINGING!!!!

I made fresh beetroot soup a while back. MAde 10 tonne of it and hated it! I made myself bleed and stained my hands grating 14 of the buggers and it just tasted of dirt!

nappyaddict · 02/05/2007 13:24

chicken breast with mixed salad leaves, lime dressing, mandarin oranges and spring onion.

bundle · 02/05/2007 13:24
