What are you favourite things to eat when you have a cold and feel like utter crap?

I feel awful. I have a cold but it's also in my chest a bit so my chest feels all wrong somehow, even though the cough itself isn't too bad. Don't think I'm running a proper temperature but I keep getting hot flushes.

Somehow I am both starving and off food at the same time.

What do you eat when ill? What would be good?

Do you stick with healthy sensible eating or would you go wild and eat crisps/ ring for a pizza/ whatever takes your fancy Grin ?

Oh this is me too, today.

I've had porridge with Nutella Blush and will chase it with a cup of tea and a coupla paracetamol

No crisps or sharp stuff to scratch sore throat but I might indulge in a packet of few hobnobs later

I have been up half the night with a screaming toddler and have a bit of a cold.

I've just eaten two large slabs of toast covered in butter and honey. That is definitely my go-to choice of morning food when poorly.

Jacket potato or toast.

ohidoliketobe · 15/10/2015 09:58

Massive bowl f creamy mash topped with cheese. Fairly bland, but comforting and filling

This is me today.

I'm about to make myself a pizza. I also have chocolate pretzels and some sweet, spicy tea.

Tomato soup with chees on toast dunked in it

Iwantakitchen · 15/10/2015 10:10

The soup my mum used to make me when I was ill!

  • fry onion, celery and carrot
  • add a tin of squashed tomato and add a tin of hot water
  • a cube of chicken stock (or two)
  • a handful of rice
  • lots of pepper
WhataRacquet · 15/10/2015 10:10

Beans on toast.

corlette · 15/10/2015 10:27

Toast and marmite.
But it has to be white fresh bread that you cut yourself as thick as your toaster can take and served with endless cups of tea.

OhdearImstuck · 15/10/2015 10:29

Oh god now I really want toast and Heinz tomato soup. I have no bread or soup in, I am a rubbish ill person.

Think I may need to do emergency shopping later.

Great ideas, thank you.

I eat gnocchi (usually have a bag in the freezer for such emergencies) with a knob of butter and tons of parmesan grated on top. A bit of chopped up ham and lots of ground pepper. If there's no gnocchi, then I have it with pasta instead. I chase it down with loads of chocolate biscuits.

AskingForAPal · 15/10/2015 10:41

The rule is, if you're feeling really shit you can eat whatever you want.

I have potato waffles in the freezer for emergencies :) which I might top with spaghetti hoops or beans with cheese.

Or a packet of pringles and some fizzy pop.

Or a microwave lasagne or something.

I eat none of those things (barring beans) usually.

Chicken soup (stock cube) with thin noodles. Works every time :-)

EmmaWoodlouse · 15/10/2015 11:31

I don't really feel like crap when I have a cold, but I do tend to fancy juicy things - it's the only time I ever really like oranges, for example.

KatharinaRosalie · 15/10/2015 11:42

Tom Kha soup, clears that cold right out

TotalConfucius · 15/10/2015 11:48

ifonly4 · 15/10/2015 12:02

I always fancy tomato soup with cheese on top - don't ask me why I never eat that combination any other time - even fancy it when recovering from a sickness bug.
