Favourite fillings for toasted sandwich maker

I usually make ham / cheese / tomato toasties by buttering bread on the outside and then frying on a hot pan till crispy and golden and they are delicious.

However I am drawn to the idea of buying a proper toasted sandwich maker - we used to have one about 10yrs ago but I don't think it made the move to this house. As I recall we used it but really only to make ham / cheese / tomato sandwiches

As a teen I hated ham and cheese and used to have them filled with jam!

There is no point buying one just to make the same old thing I make anyway so can you inspire me with your best combinations please?

Also any recommendations for a decent machine. Our old one did the job but didn't seem to 'seal' the bread very week and there was always a horrible mess to clean up after - greasy crusted melted cheese!

Thanks

Don't fight it, Laska.

That's the beauty of savoury and sweet fillings. Smile

ham and cheese toasties - but with Reggae Reggae sauce on the inside of the bread. Mmmmmm : )

I think we might just live on toasties for a week. And I've been so good with no eating too much bread....

Perlwen and red onion toasties are calling my name. And why oh why did I not think of sweet toasties before? This is going to blow DS's little mind Grin

As an aside am I the only one who keeps reading paninis as penis.

Chicken mayo, cheese and tomato
Tuna mayo, cheese, onion
Haggis (microwaved first) and cheese
Black pudding, cheese and beans
Ham, brie and cranberry sauce

My mum always used to mix up an egg with grated cheese and ham (you need a LOT of grated cheese to one egg to make it solid enough so you get many, many delicious toasties) so you end up with a kind of toasty omelette. Frigging gorgeous. Also they puff up loads as they cook so you get big fat toasties rather than disappointing flat ones. I didn't realise anyone made sandwich maker toasties differently until I went to uni! and converted my flatmates Clean up is a right bugger though, I always overfill and get leakage. God I want a toasty now!

My ultimate is cooked fish fingers with cheese and ketchup. Cook the fish fingers in the george foremab 1st take them out and put them in the bread cheese and ketchup then the whole thing back in the george yum.

Mincemeat (As in fruity filling for little pies as Xmas)
Banana and nutella
Grated apple and dulce de leche
Those little tins of beans and sausages with cheese
Grated apple, blue cheese and nuts
Jam and grated apple
Corned beef

smellyfishead · 10/01/2015 18:54

I love-

cheese, beans and sausage (cut sausage lengthways to fit)
cheese and onion
but my favourite is meatballs, sometimes with cheese, sometimes just on their own with a little spoonful of their tomato sauce(cut them in half to fit!)

smellyfishead · 10/01/2015 18:55

^^obviously if doing sausage/meatball you either need to cook them first or use hot dog sausages/tinned meatballs!!

NothingTraLaLa · 15/01/2015 20:27
