I don't want guacamole!

So what else can I do with an avocado?

I have never bought or eaten one until I tried some guacamole off my sister's plate when we were out and I liked the flavour.

Alot of the recipes I'm finding involve salad which I'm not really in the mood for at the minute.

Any suggestions?

Yes, make sure you never, ever try to eat it if it's not quite ripe!

Eminybob · 02/11/2014 12:47

On Sunday Brunch this morning they cut one in half, broke an egg into the stone hole then baked until the egg was cooked. Served with cheese sauce. Looked nice.

Trills I realise it sounds silly, what I mean is that I know I can make guacamole with it (and I will) but I wanted some other things to try as well - I enjoy cooking and experimenting.

It isn't ripe yet I don't think, which is a bit frustrating. Keeping the vinegar thing in mind though - i love the flavour of vinegar.

swoosh - I have no idea what those things are, will have too google!

Allalone - I do loads of baking so will definitely be trying it with the mango!

Not sure I'll try baking it with the egg - I'm not keen on egg white at all, but am noting that it seems to be paired with cheese alot!

Thanks everyone for taking the time to suggest things!

If you want to ripen it put it in a paper bag with a banana and stash it in a dark cupboard for a day or two

Tuna and avocado mayonnaise on toast, grate cheese on top and grill

annoyedofnorwich · 02/11/2014 16:35

Eat it with a dollop of hellmans mayo (can add a bit of garlic to the mayo too). Eat it in a sandwich with brie, cherry tomatoes and mayo. Put it in sushi hand rolls or maki rolls as a vegetarian version of sushi. Put it on toast with sea salt. Or just eat it plain with a spoon. Mmm, avocado!

annoyedofnorwich · 02/11/2014 16:39

Just saw the comment above saying 3 colour salad, I'd say add basil leaves to the avocado, mozzarella and tomato too!

Avocado Ice Cream

Avocado Compound Butter

Justyouwaitandsee · 02/11/2014 17:39

Mix half salad cream or mayo with half tomato sauce to make an beautiful and quick Marie Rose sauce. Spoon into the hole and eat, maybe add a dash of lemon or sprinkling of paprika.

GaryShitpeas · 02/11/2014 18:51

BikeRunSki · 02/11/2014 18:53

In a sandwhich with blue cheese and watercress.

RedButtonhole · 02/11/2014 19:50

Gary can I ask where you buy sushi? I've only had one experience with it at a buffet and it wasn't a pleasant one!

TyneTeas · 02/11/2014 19:59

whizz it in a blender with a splash of lemon or lime, some rum and icing sugar : )

Selks · 02/11/2014 21:07

Refried bean tostada with avo on top.....lightly toast a flour tortilla, pile refried beans on, shredded lettuce, chopped red pepper, sprinkle of cheese / blobs of sour cream (or both), top with avocado chunks, squeeze of lime over and munch away. Food of the gods.
Recipe here should you want one.

My favourite way to serve up avocado is in a sandwich sliced with some cold sliced roast chicken and lemon mayo, amazing on granary bread with a twist of fresh black pepper

DHandhisghastlyhauntedfoot · 04/11/2014 13:15

I have to make sure I'm not leaving the house for a week after I've eaten my homemade guacamole, I like it with half a bulb of garlic. Grin

Avocado goes really well with eggs of any sort.

Pasithea · 04/11/2014 14:05

Avocado smoked salmon. Lemon juice mayo. Sandwiches or with pasta. Mmmmmmmm

MrsMarigold · 04/11/2014 14:11

just add salt, pepper and a squeeze of lemon and devour it

CMOTDibbler · 04/11/2014 14:14

I like it with cooked chicken, rice wine vinegar, sushi rice and japanese seasoning (sesame seeds, bits of nori), or chicken, avocado, mayo and pasta

BeGhoul · 04/11/2014 14:16

BLAT or version thereof (bacon, lettuce avocado, tomato)

I once lived door to the most incredible avocado tree and my fav way to eat them was cut in half, with the hole filled with a spicy home made plum sauce - lush.

Topped with prawn cocktail on a bed of lettuce.

make a dressing with it.

On toast with tomato & lemon.
