Would you take a bottle of wine or beers with you?

It is my 40th birthday in July and we are having a BBQ and trying to work out numbers for the caterer

we have:

33 adults,

6 teenagers,

10 children {around 10 years old} and

8 babies or small children with little appitites

It is in July for a lunchtime BBQ

I don't drink alcohol and hopefully some of the adults will NOT be drink driving so won't drink either

DH says they will want wine but I am not really sure

But what would you provide?

TIA

Smile

In my experience the men will want chilled lager/beer and the ladies will be on the wine ! We always do some soft drinks too for the drivers - plus kids drinks - and maybe something like Pimms or a light punch too ?

You could always write on the invite bring a bottle!!

RTKangaMummy · 05/04/2006 16:21

ooooooooooooh forgot about Pimms Smile

So lager/beer is it ok to have them in cans?

Would you expect people to bring drinks with them or should we think they wouldn't?

IYSWIM

We always take a bottle even if it isn't drunk there and I usually take lemonade as well

I would provide wine but not expect people to drink much (I can't do lunchtime drinking very well).

tarantula · 05/04/2006 16:22

Yes would expect beer and wine but would bring some with us anyway. I am happy with either beer or wine but d is a beer person as are lots of men IME.

Bozza · 05/04/2006 16:23

Would definitely provide it. Is there somewhere you can get it on a sale or return basis?

RTKangaMummy · 05/04/2006 16:23

So would you think 1 person = 1 bottle of wine

How many cans of beer would your DH/DP expect to drink? over lunch

serenity · 05/04/2006 16:24

Bottles rather than cans, unless you are going to have glasses/plastic cups (it looks nicer Blush)

RTKangaMummy · 05/04/2006 16:24

Hopefully the caterer would do sale or return on the wine not sure about beer really, Dh hasn't asked about drink

That would seem a bit on the high side for a lunchtime event IMO.

Norah · 05/04/2006 16:25

We bought some big storage buckets from B&Q last year (about £6 each !) and buy big bags of ice on the day, fill buckets half with ice and half with bottles/cans - let people help themselves.

Could do same with drinks for the children - let them have a lucky dip on drinks !

Would think most people would bring some drinks anyway - we usually end up with a net gain at our parties !

serenity · 05/04/2006 16:25

1/2 bottle I would say.

RTKangaMummy · 05/04/2006 16:25

So do you reckon 2 bottles for 3 people

OP posts:
serenity · 05/04/2006 16:26

That's half rather than 1 or 2 bottles Grin

RTKangaMummy · 05/04/2006 16:26

Would it be rude to ask for

Bring a bottle on invite??????

OOOOOH have lots of plastic toy boxes that could fill with ice

Thank you so much for your help

How long would you expect the party to last? If it drags on into late afternoon half the guests (the half not driving) will expect wine/Pimms/beer.
I would definitely drink at a lunchtime bbq. Not sloshed amount but probably 2 glasses.

Would expect beer and wine at a summer BBQ tbh.

Norah · 05/04/2006 16:27

Blimey - you guys must go to sober parties !!

Yes I'd allow maybe 1/2 bottle of wine each - or 3 or 4 bottles/cans of beer or lager !

The last thing you want to do is run dry !

Sale or return is great idea - you can usually get them to deliver with ice too !

RTKangaMummy · 05/04/2006 16:29

If we start at 1pm guess it would go on til 4pm

Does that sound about right?

OP posts:
PandaG · 05/04/2006 16:29

I would think 1 bottle of wine for 2 people max, and maybe 3 bottle s of beer/lager per person you expect to drink it, based on the lunchtime party we did last year, particularly if you think people will bring it with them. Sale or return is useful. Also a good idea to have soda water or lemonade, as a lot of people seem to like spritzers at lunchtime.

Norah · 05/04/2006 16:30

I meant HALF a bottle each btw not 1 or 2 !!! Am not that much of an alkie !

RTKangaMummy · 05/04/2006 16:32

One of our friends will deffo drink over a bottle by herself and still be able to hold a conversation with you

And she is only small
