I shall be attempting this tomorrow for dinner. I am excited about trying something I've heard such good things about but am looking for any tips! Also interested to hear your experiences. :)

pitta bread
I've made them several times.
I lob all the ingredients in the Kenwood Chef, and then get DD to roll them out and cook.
They are really good.

I follow her blog & had never seen those before! Thanks.

Blacksquirrel · 26/04/2012 13:02

The Takeaway secrets book is only 99p on kindle :)

Thanks to this thread I too can enjoy doner kebab again.

Quick question... how do you make the red cabbage really tasty? In the book it doesn't mention any soaking or anything but in the kebab shop the red cabbage is always soft with a bit of a kick too it. Would it be pickled?

BlackAffronted · 26/04/2012 13:25

Probably :)

BlackAffronted · 25/05/2012 17:49

I just got my copy of the new book Grin has anyone else bought it?

NettoSuperstar · 26/05/2012 13:26

No, am waiting to see what you think of it, and I've still only tried the kebabs from the first book!

caffeinated · 26/05/2012 16:03

Oooh I have been wanting to know what's in the new book before buying it.

HoneyDragonWearingLederhosen · 26/05/2012 16:13

I'm going to try the crispy beef from the new book this week.

HillyWallaby · 26/05/2012 16:44

I'm glad you asked the cabbage question Black, to me the best bit of a shop bought kebab is the slightly pickled tasting cabbage salad, and there is no point in making any of it because it won't taste right if the cabbage isn't the same!

HillyWallaby · 26/05/2012 16:45

I mean no point unless the cabbage is the same.

Blatherskite · 26/05/2012 17:04

We love these. I got the recipe online but am very tempted to buy the book and try some of the others now

BlackAffronted · 26/05/2012 17:51

I think the 2nd book is as good as the first, it has some Scottish chipshop stuff in it (King Rib anyone?). There are some Indian & Chinese I want to try too. I think I have 15 recipes earmarked to try out.

SecretNutellaFix · 26/05/2012 18:19

There are 2 books?

NettoSuperstar · 26/05/2012 18:33

Ooh, I've never tried king rib before.
I'm making that Scottish classic, deep fried battered pizza tonight!

HoneyDragonWearingLederhosen · 26/05/2012 19:50

Yes Nutty it was released last week, do keep up dear
Grin

SecretNutellaFix · 26/05/2012 20:08

Oi- I have a RL, you know!

HoneyDragonWearingLederhosen · 26/05/2012 20:11

Weirdo Hmm with your freakish RL ways

doblet · 26/05/2012 20:55

I love the Traditional Indian Curry the best. We've tried several of the Indian and Chinese dishes but the donor kebab was a dried, shrivelled disappointment.
The second book arrived today, I could hardly contain my excitement. Gutted there's no sag aloo, he needs to do a third book!

BlackAffronted · 27/05/2012 08:02

What is everyone going to try first from the new book? Im going to try the curry puffs.

NettoSuperstar · 27/05/2012 15:12

What are they?
I'm planning a cuury night later this week and they could be something to add.
I need you to blog them for me first though!

NettoSuperstar · 27/05/2012 16:08

Sod it, I've just ordered it!
I will make it my mission to do a meal a week from one of the books though, since all I've tried is the donner kebabs, which were brilliant.

BlackAffronted · 27/05/2012 18:37

I have only had 1 disaster from the first book, which was the chip shop curry sauce (all heat and no flavour). Everything else has been awesome! I have a folder on FB of the stuff Ive tried.

NettoSuperstar · 27/05/2012 19:11

Ooh, I'll look for it.
I'm tempted to try that curry, if I hear something's a big gross I get the urge. (see tripe!)
I want to do a cabbage thoran, chicken pakora from the book, and another dish, so maybe that could fit?

NettoSuperstar · 27/05/2012 19:12

'bit gross, though big could work too!

SecretNutellaFix · 29/05/2012 15:28

Thanks to this thread I have both bleedin' books on order from Smiths.

Will let you know the outcome.
