OK - perfect 10-minute quinoa:

Place 1pt water in a saucepan
Bring to the boil, then turn down to simmer
Add 2 cups quinoa
Add 1 tsp medium curry powder
Add 1 clove chopped garlic
1 small chopped onion
1tsp chopped coriander leaf
Simmer for 25 minutes or until soft and chewy
Drain and add a knob of butter/tbsp olive oil
Add a pinch of black pepper and mix gently

Chuck it in the bin and order a pizza

moondog · 13/02/2006 16:12

Puddle,I just have it as an accompaniment to stews and curries or alterantively use it like I would tabbouleh.
In with some finely sliced onions, tomatoes, cucumber, herbs and protein (fetta cheese is great)and a home made vinaigrette.
It has more protein than milk you know...amazing stuff.

moondog · 13/02/2006 16:13

There ya go-two contributions!

puddle · 13/02/2006 16:14

greensleeves.
I take it that recipe tastes like day old pond water then?

Where's Moondog and franny when you need them?

Greensleeves · 13/02/2006 16:16

So do maggots, but you don't boil those up to go with your steamed fish

That recipe I posted actually works, you know. If chawing on bitter indigestible chaff is your bag

puddle · 13/02/2006 16:17

Well moondog I have used it instead of rice etc and it's not tasted nice at all. Maybe I'm cooking it badly (but how hard can it be?)

Will try greensleeves spicy number.

Thomcat · 13/02/2006 17:04

7777777 · 13/02/2006 17:56

2 butttered/bovril rolls

gammon steak/2eggs/chips

FrannyandZooey · 13/02/2006 20:12

Puddle did you wash it first? Some people find it has a bitter taste unless washed, and the packets always say to rinse thoroughly before cooking. Otherwise we just boil it as you would rice, and eat it when the little tail bit is just starting to curl away from the grain, so it still has a crunch to it, not mushy. We usually add some really good soy sauce when cooked which is not very healthy but bloody lovely

Today's food:

Muesli and fruit as usual
Cashew butter sandwich
Yogurt, banana and raisins
Cheese scone with butter
Raisin and cinnamon bagel with butter
Satsuma, apple, pear
Lentil, squash and root veg soup and rolls with butter

I seem to have eaten about half a pound of butter today

Frizbetheexpansionset · 13/02/2006 20:14

far too much but then am 38 weeks pregs!! (tell me that when crying about weight in 6 weeks time)

2 weetabix and 2 slices fruity toast

2 x Sausage Cobs! (naughty but nice)

1 x lamb chop, mash, carrots n peas
1 x apple pie

and snack'd on various chocky bickies!!

puddle · 13/02/2006 20:28

There's something wierdly compelling about this thread - food voyeurs

Franny I may not have washed it enough. Will try again - also I think was a bit mushy.

My food today:
Porridge and honey
Satsuma and blueberries
apple
baked potato and cottage cheese with tomato
Kedgeree
Glass of red wine
Loads of water and hot lemon with ginger

May go for ginger oatcakes and an apple later on too - v hungry today.

GDG how can you get to 5.00 on just a bowl of cereal and a kit kat?!

FrannyandZooey · 13/02/2006 20:38

Puddle, I also saw a recipe where you cook it till almost done, then finish it in fruit juice, and serve with raisins for breakfast. Sounded very nice. It could be you are just not keen on it though.

FrannyandZooey · 13/02/2006 20:40

Also I think the word crunch was maybe misleading - struggling for a texture to compare it to - definitely a bit of bite to it though.

spots · 13/02/2006 20:47

Bowl of muesli. a big one.
Banana and raisin pancake. a little one.
Fartichoke and arsenip soup

Bread with that, pear, cheese.
DD's party bag cake then 2 choc fingers as that didn't seem like enough sugar
