Which 5 meals do you cook most often?

Please indulge me. Been sick with hyperemesis for the last 5 months, so the thought of food was pushed to the very back of my mind. I'm now ready to look at cookbooks again. It's bliss! In fact, I'm a little obsessed at the moment with all the things I want to eat...

So what are the 5 meals you make the most often?

And also, how many different meals are there roughly in your repertoire that you rotate for dinner?

At the moment, I'd say that the five things we cook/eat the most are:

  1. Baked risotto with leeks, peas, broad beans and artichokes
  2. Some kind of veggie curry
  3. Veggie chilli
  4. Veggie sausage casserole with hassleback or baked potatoes
  5. Vegetable soup

This is a good base sauce for a curry. Last time I did it, I par-boiled some potatoes and carrots then put them in the sauce and cooked a bit. Added halved green beans and cooked a bit more then stirred in some spinach just before serving. If I want to add paneer, I fry it first.

Hmm, thanks for that Remus - I fancy getting some mustard seeds and starting off my curry by popping them in the pan ! Interesting that he suggests using chopped tomatoes and coconut milk. I love coconut curries. A friend of mine does a great tomatoey/coconuty one with chick peas too. So, I might give something along these lines a whirl !

Update: the sausage casserole went down a treat! Thanks everyone Smile.

I used Co-op Bonfire Bangers which had toffee apple and treacle in and think they really added to the flavour.

Totally forgot. Brilliant easy peasy cheap chicken recipe:

Baked chicken thighs sprinkled with plenty of five spice. The skin gets crispy and is absolutely delicious. Barely any effort at all. Goes well with salad.

8rubberduckies · 07/11/2011 21:34

I know that's 7 but couldn't choose. I'm trying to make different things as everyone is getting a bit fed up with my menu but everyone in this house is so fussy, now I say this is the dinner eat it or starve. Trying to come up with things that all 3 dc's and hubby will eat is so annoying (although dh will just eat what's put in front of him if he doesn't like it he too will starve).
Tonight we are having chicken, chorizo and chickpea stew thing. I predict lots of left overs.

curlyLJ · 08/11/2011 14:16

Home-made sausage casserole - varying the type/flavour of the sausages
Chicken & Chorizo casserole
Fajitas
Thai marinated salmon with stir fried veg
Spag bol or Lasagne
Roasted veg pasta - with either pesto or a tomato based sauce

Sorry I know that's 6, but they are the ones I use most and couldn't choose which one to leave out!

No idea how many recipes I have in total, but I do know that since having DD my brain doesn't function quite in the same way and I often find myself unable to make a food-shopping list, or walk round and round in circles dithering in the supermarket.

WinterIsComing · 08/11/2011 14:23

Bloody hell, the corned beef hash was really successful. DH ate it all and leftovers for lunch and even onion-hating DD gave it a go and Shock ate the lot. I am still absurdly pleased about that.

Grin at Olivia HQ's work-avoiding responsible moderating.

Gosh, you're all so adventurous with those curries. Maybe I will too when DC older.

Jacket potatoes with smoked salmon and sour cream, broccoli side
Carbonara type pasta with mushrooms in it
Pea and smoked haddock risotto
Sausage and mash with onion and red wine gravy, carrot side
Cheese and ham omelette

Will look up things to do with chorizo and beans after reading you.

RIZZ0 · 08/11/2011 17:49

Just realised in my first post I put "chorizo and red lentil casserole" missing out the main ingredient of chicken thighs!
