Schindlers List. It was the only time I have ever gone to the pictures and everyone sat in slilence at the end until all the credits played out. I think it was because we were all crying.

Dingle · 23/03/2005 19:10

Oh dear...I am such am emotional wreck! I would cry at anything remotely sad!
The first one that came to mind was Phenomenon, but after quickly glancing through some of the others, I am sitting here saying to myself, oh yeah,,that was so sad....
Oh,I do love a good weepy film!

I suppose I have accepted that I am, as a person, over sensitive! Isn't that a Piscean thing?
I do choose my films to my mood IYSWIM. On sorting out our video/DVD collection I was surprised by the amount of romantic comedy films we have. I cry at most of them too!

SleepyJess · 23/03/2005 19:22

La Bamba

The Green Mile and... saddest of all

AI (with Jude Law and Haley Joel Osment)

SleepyJess · 23/03/2005 19:23

(sorry, didn't notice AI had already been mentioned)

Ghost

sievehead · 23/03/2005 19:32

Terms of Endearment - definitely could not watch it now I've got kids though!

Laylasmum · 23/03/2005 19:32

dumbo
philadelphia ( Tom hanks is fab!!!)

MrsBigD · 23/03/2005 20:00

That's a tough one as atm I cry at anything!

Schindlers List
Green Mile
Gladiator (the end scene when he dies - sob sob sob)
Little Women
Steel magnolias
Step mum
First Sight
Starman (with you on that one Dhalia)
The wanderer

Haven't dared to watch 'once were warriors' yet. It's there sitting on the shelf, but I know I'm going to be a mess going by what dh told me about it

MunchedTooManyMarsLady · 23/03/2005 20:19

Goodbye Mr Chips (the original). I wept buckets

MunchedTooManyMarsLady · 23/03/2005 20:21

Mask
I know my first name is Stephen (I weep just thinking about it).
An Imitation of Life

Eowyn · 23/03/2005 20:25

The Elephant Man. Long time since I saw it, had videod but just couldn't bear to see it again & had to tape over.

Whizzz · 23/03/2005 20:30

AI made me cry buckets
Brief Encounter - cheesy but a classic
The Age of Innocence - so tragic & restrained

Lonelymum · 23/03/2005 20:33

Can't see that anyone has mentioned Love Story. I know, I know, what a cliche, but some of the films mentioned have sad bits to them like Ghost and Cry Freedom, but Love Story always leave me crying at the end.

Prufrock · 23/03/2005 20:40

Stepmom - too close to home
Imitation of Life - Whenever it's on I go to bed with a bx of tissues.
Petes Dragon -when Elliot has to go at teh end
Truly Madly Deeply - Juliet Stevenson does better snot than anyone

MunchedTooManyMarsLady · 23/03/2005 20:41

Prufock I cry when trying to explain An Imitation of Life to anyone

TinyGang · 23/03/2005 20:52

'AI' made me cry and sci-fi isn't my thing at all. The bit where his 'mommy' drove him into the woods and left him there..(gulp, sniff)

'Born Free' always makes me cry - I think it's the song that does it.

I cry at loads more than I used to since having children.

alterego · 23/03/2005 20:58

Bridges of Madison County (Clint Eastwood & Meryl Streep). Can't believe it's not been mentioned yet. I cried for half an hour after watching it (not kidding) and dh was really worried about me.

TinyGang · 23/03/2005 21:00

Is Imitation of Life the one with Lana Turner and Sandra Dee, or am I thinking of something else? Can't quite remember the story - is it where the daughter has an affair with her mothers boyfriend?

MunchedTooManyMarsLady · 23/03/2005 21:04

An Imitation of Life. Yes, Lana Turner, Sandra Dee, Juanita Moore. Sob Sob Sob!

Kayleigh · 23/03/2005 21:06

alterego, I walked out of the cinema for that one. I couldn't bear Meryl Streeps accent. I had read the book and loved it so I really shouldn't have gone to see the film. I never find a film as good as the book if I have loved a book.

TinyGang · 23/03/2005 21:10

Ah, thank you MTMML, yes it is the one I'm thinking about. It is good and sad too.

acnebride · 23/03/2005 21:16

Death in Venice

now, what's it called. Not cool runnings but a title a bit like that - it's a sci fi one and the last scene is a small robotic watering can left to tend plants in a biosphere lost in space, all on its oooowwwn [sob] SILENT RUNNING that's it. An absolute killer.

West Side Story

Who will love my children, oh yes.

sansouci · 23/03/2005 21:27

My saddest are Love Story and E.T. but has been MANY years since I've seen either one. Probably find them super-corny now but at the time they broke my heart.

sansouci · 23/03/2005 21:28

Oh yes! Forgot about West Side Story. That is a brilliant film & probably is as good & weepy now as it was when they made it, although I wasn't around then...
