Have most of you seen "Mrs. Miniver"?

I was wondering if I'd be right in assuming that most of you have seen "Mrs. Miniver"? I was watching it on TV recently, which was partly what triggered my WWII post.

I'm crazy about Greer Garson.

Yes I love it. Read the book recently and it's completely different!

I may have seen it when I was a child - the name is very familiar and it seems like it might have been a ‘Sunday afternoon movie’ on the TV. But reading the plot I don’t remember it at all.

I saw it about a million years ago. I have the book, never actually read it, though.

Have you watched This Happy Breed, thoroughly recommend it.

There was a sequel, but it was nowhere near as good.

We have it on DVD. I think Victoria Wood would have described it as "one of those films you have never seen with your shoes on".

Yes, years ago. Limited memories of it. Isn’t it supposed to have been one of the factors that softened up US attitudes to entering WWII?

I did know there’s a book but I’d forgotten. The kind of thing I usually like so might give that a go.

I’ve seen it many times. I believe it was made partly to persuade the USA to enter the War. It’s very good, as is This Happy Breed mentioned above

Yes it was to get the US in. My DM was alive at the time serving in the army. She said everyone thought it was hilarious as it was supposed to depict an average British family.

I think Greer Garson played Walter Pidgeons mum but we're married IRL.

I also love Went the Day Well about a German invasion of a village.

The book is wonderful. Jan Struther, the author wrote the children's hymn, 'When a Knight won his spurs'. Mrs Miniver is based on Jan Struther She hated the fact that they changed the ending of the book for the film so that Mrs Miniver died at the end. Then shortly after making the film, Jan Struther died of cancer. It was so sad.

Love Mrs Miniver but This Happy Breed is fabulous. One of my favourites.
