Have most of you seen "Mrs. Miniver"?

I was wondering if I'd be right in assuming that most of you have seen "Mrs. Miniver"? I was watching it on TV recently, which was partly what triggered my WWII post.

I'm crazy about Greer Garson.

The book has fascinating insights into middle class life in the ‘30s.

A mechanic brings their car round to their house, from the local garage, every morning.

I have to admit I haven't heard of it. Should I watch it?

Nope! Heard of it but never seen it. In my late fifties so not sure how I've managed to miss it!

If you like Greer Garson , may I recommend Random Harvest.
Another old favourite. I have a good cry every time I watch it

I’m not sure I ever saw the film but I did read the book in my teens and very much enjoyed it iirc.

The film is very good, but written from a different perspective from the book.

I'd already seen the film the time it came on one afternoon whilst I was watching tv with my dad - former soldier, then a coalminer. I recall hearing a strangled sob and dad uttering "She should tell him!"

That would have been better! She’d have kicked ass! SPOILER ALERT She dies.

Not only that...

I'm surprised so many people here haven't even heard of it. It's a classic Hollywood movie, and won SIX Oscars - and Greer Garson is on record for the longest acceptance speech in history.

Hard to say, since I don't know what you like in movies. It's a lovely piece of pro-Brit WWII soft propaganda, with a 93% Rotten Tomato rating and 6 Academy Awards. There's a brief scene related to Dunkirk and I didn't understand the significance the first time I saw it, but now that I do, I find it very moving. I stop to watch it whenever I run across it on TV, because I love Greer Garson.

Yes sorry, got it all wrong. I know my late DM couldn't stand it as it portrayed English life of the time in a way that would appeal to the US. It was actually filmed in California.

My mum absolutely loved Greer Garson. I remember her telling me there was a hat shop in Glasgow during the war called Hollywood Hats ( or similar). They sold copies of hats from all the big films in the 40s and when Mrs Miniver came out they had copies of all the beautiful hats Greer Garson wore in the film. She loved it!
