Have most of you seen "Mrs. Miniver"?

I was wondering if I'd be right in assuming that most of you have seen "Mrs. Miniver"? I was watching it on TV recently, which was partly what triggered my WWII post.

I'm crazy about Greer Garson.

I love old British war films, in fact I love old British films. My dear old dad went to the flicks a lot during his youth and we liked to watch them together on TV.

It is very Hollywood studio bound but it’s the sort of film I’ll watch if on.

I always feel sad now though when I learned Greer Garson’s second husband was Richard Ney, the actor who played her son Vin and he was unpleasant to her as their marriage faltered about her age amongst other things. She was 12 years older.

I saw all of these films on tv at home as a kid but it’s a great experience to see them in the cinema and I love go whenever I see one showing; the communal experience .

Most of me has seen Mrs Miniver. I love it - but not as much as I love This Happy Breed...

Exactly! The whole idea of cinema as a communal experience is vanishing!

Especially sad with comedies.

Jan Struther also wrote the hymn “Lord of all hopefulness, Lord of all joy” which remains in general use. It’s most often sung to the tune ‘Slane’, but the tune written for it is called ‘Miniver’.

I think i prefer the book to the film but the film parties watching.

It's my mother's favourite film but I've never seen it.

I've heard of it, never seen it or read the book and couldn't tell you what it's about. I grew up in a family that didn't watch films much and I only really watch them at the cinema now, not on TV so there are an awful lot of classics I've never seen.
