Annette Badland as Dolores Umbridge
Tilda Swinton as Elizabeth I

SunsetCocktails · 28/04/2025 09:29

I think Tilda Swinton would make a great Dr Who. Or failing that, The Master.

Jasmin71 · 28/04/2025 09:41

Aidan Turner as Rochester 😀

Aidan Turner as Rochester 😀

Don't know that I see him as Rochester but I can imagine him as Heathcliff. Or Mr Wickham. He would play saucy and irresponsible very effectively.

RoseAndGeranium · 28/04/2025 12:41

On casting period literature, I notice that Jack Lowden's going to be playing Mr Darcy in a rewrite of P&P by Phoebe Waller Bridge? Is that right? I really see him more as a Mr Bingley. Didn't like Colin Firth as Mr Darcy at all, but enjoyed Matthew Macfadyen's version. Trying to think who else could do a good job...

ChessieFL · 28/04/2025 13:11

Rupert Penry-Jones as Rupert Campbell-Black in the Jilly Cooper books

Bob Hoskins as the chimney sweep in Mary Poppins - Dick van Dyke worst casting ever

Agree re Dick van Dyke. I always thought Bruce Forsyth would've been great as Bert!

RoseAndGeranium · 28/04/2025 13:25

Oh! I know who I'd pick for Rochester: Rufus Sewell.

Why wasn't Robert Carlyle in any of the Harry Potter films, that's what I want to know.

Oh and I think Hugh Laurie would have been a good Gilderoy Lockhart.

I think he once said something about it being fine for kids but the thought of being in it made him feel sick!

Pieceofpurplesky · 28/04/2025 14:52

Oh and Theo James for Bond

HonoriaBulstrode · 28/04/2025 15:11

Agree re Dick van Dyke. I always thought Bruce Forsyth would've been great as Bert!

What about Len Goodman? Don't know about his acting skills, but he could dance and do the accent!

Giggorata · 28/04/2025 15:14

Christopher Lee as Merriman Lyon in that (dreadful) film of the Dark is Rising.

Adam Driver as Snape in that TV version, obviously.
Ditto Henry Cavill as Bond.

Hugh Laurie as Doctor Who. Or Richard Ayoade. Or Robert Carlyle. Or Judi Dench.

Why would it matter if Bond wasn't white?

Because realistically he’d be pulled over by the police after 10 minutes for being black driving an Aston Martin.

Really? Oh well, he probably realised his mistake eventually!

I really like James Norton but, he's far to untidy to play James Bond. JB is dapper and suave. JN in looks reminds me of a lovable golden retriever.

Did you see him in Mc Mafia ?
He’s well capable of playing suave.

DecidedlyUndecided · 29/04/2025 22:40

Jamie Demetriou as Mr Bean's son

PuppyMonkey · 29/04/2025 22:50

Wasn't there talk of Mark Ruffalo playing Columbo a while back? That would be ideal casting imho.

DecidedlyUndecided · 26/04/2025 22:37

Kate Winslet as Bridget Jones

This 💯
Why did they employ a Texan when there are so many brilliant British actresses ?

SushiForBreakfast · 10/07/2025 20:06

DappledThings · 27/04/2025 17:16

Alfred Enoch as Peter Grant in Rivers of London.

This is brilliant!! 100% agreed

deeahgwitch · 11/07/2025 16:35

I think someone like Kevin Costner would have been better than Tom Hanks in Bonfire of the Vanities.
I admire Tom Hanks as an actor but think he was miscast as Sherman Mc Coy

ladygindiva · 11/07/2025 19:11

I'm waiting for Imelda Staunton as Marple

Skissors · 12/07/2025 15:38

I wanted a film adaptation of Oryx and Crake with Jake Gyllenhall and Heath Ledger in the lead parts.
Sadly, obviously not going to happen ..
