When Jude Law's character Graham is getting calls from Sophie and Olivia. What dcs that age would have phones? It proper niggled me.

I probably thought it last time I watched but noticed it more so tonight.

Apart from that I love it. Those dcs are so cute. And when they're in the bed tent, adorable ❤️

I always thought they were calling from the home landline! It’s a very old movie!!!

NotYourSaviour · 22/12/2024 20:40

Good point. I was just typing a response to say it would have been his MIL or DM calling, or childminder etc. But then why would the names come up separately on his phone...

Ah well. Do you know what always bugged me the most about The Holiday - how Jack Black (bless 'im) was so horribly miscast as a joint romantic lead. He's a great actor but (imo) this was all wrong for him - Kate Winslet is fabulous and manage to draw up some chemistry with his character from deep down in her shoes somewhere, but he seemed all wrong to me. There must have been a hundred other US actors to cast instead!

I want to know who is looking after the kids when Jude is on his nights out/the pub/crashing on his sister's sofa/taking Cameron to the pub. Because when Cameron comes to the house, one of the kids say something like 'we never have girls here'.

So who is the Nanny? And if mummy has died, wouldn't you think aunty (ie Kate Winslet) would be round the house a lot. And yet, it seems not....

That's what bugs me about that movie!

His parents! They mention it at some point.

kindlyensure · 22/12/2024 20:55

Ah, I must have missed that (I've only seen it like a million times 😂)

MujeresLibres · 22/12/2024 21:00

And the bit where they say famous Bristolian Cary Grant was from Surrey. So easy to check, and yet they left it in...

LushLemonTart · 22/12/2024 21:05

Yes Jack Black was miscast.

Eee that's shocking about Cary Grant !

It doesn't do to question films like this. Best not to ask !

TenThousandSpoons · 22/12/2024 21:08

The whole timeline of the old fella learning to walk again is ridiculous.

OldFish · 22/12/2024 21:10

I watched this (again) the other day and suddenly noticed a glaring error. When Graham gives Cameron Diaz a lift in his car, there are no child seats or child stuff in it! No crisps mashed into the seats or wellies in the footwells.

This is a joke yes?

His middle name was Lazarus though 😅

What, children over the age of 3 didn’t legally need a car seat till 2006, so the movie was made well before this.

and who keeps their car filthy like that or their kids wellies in it?

Wantitalltogoaway · 22/12/2024 21:20

What bugs me is that he’s a book editor and has a massive, beautiful home. Not on that salary he wouldn’t!

Successful and senior book editors are very well paid.

AnneShirleysNewDress · 22/12/2024 21:24

What annoys me most is Cameron Diaz coning out of the kitchen with the plate of party at the end. No, Cameron, no!!!!!

ClaireEclair · 22/12/2024 21:25

I think Jack was cast well. He wasn’t supposed to be some standard handsome dashing man. He was the opposite of Rufus Sewell. He also had his heart broken by the actress played by Shannon Sossamon so it would make sense to have a more average Joe.

I guess his wife had good life insurance

daffodilandtulip · 22/12/2024 21:26

Haha we watched this last night and I thought the exact same!

Yuckyyuckyuckity · 22/12/2024 21:26

Totally agree about Jack Black, he gives me the ick so much in this film.

Whatabanana · 22/12/2024 21:28

I thought the bit with Cameron diaz drunk driving was really irresponsible. They seem to do that quite a lot in American shows!

TurkeyDinosaurs2 · 22/12/2024 21:28

I think that's sort of the point with Jack Black though. He's not supposed to be a bona fide character, he's supposed to be the typical 'good guy'.
