When Jude Law's character Graham is getting calls from Sophie and Olivia. What dcs that age would have phones? It proper niggled me.

I probably thought it last time I watched but noticed it more so tonight.

Apart from that I love it. Those dcs are so cute. And when they're in the bed tent, adorable ❤️

It's illegal there too though

LushLemonTart · 22/12/2024 21:33

There's still snow on the ground yet the driver can get to the cottage near the end.

Successful and senior book editors are very well paid.

Really? How do you know?

Redcrayons · 22/12/2024 21:35

not just the drink and driving, also that she’s walking around the supermarket swigging out of a bottle of red wine. They’d Chuck you out of Asda for doing that.

I do love it though.

LushLemonTart · 22/12/2024 21:37

I love it too. The party at the end is lovely.

What, children over the age of 3 didn’t legally need a car seat till 2006, so the movie was made well before this.

and who keeps their car filthy like that or their kids wellies in it?

Edited

I've got teenagers and my car is covered in crumbs, dirty boots and other detritus!!

And the bit where they say famous Bristolian Cary Grant was from Surrey. So easy to check, and yet they left it in...

I knew Cary Grant was from Bristol, but after watching the Holiday, for a short time, I thought that Bristol must be in Surrey 😐it just seemed like too much of a blooper to be made up!

Renohouse · 22/12/2024 21:41

The error that gets me is the list of countries on the computer when she's choosing her home swap- the British flag but just says England! Basic geography. Though I'm scottish so maybe that's why it annoys me more!

Cyclebabble · 22/12/2024 21:51

I know it is a bit corny but I love this film. I think the kids who play Jude Law's daughters are fantastic. I live the bit where they say Cameron Diaz looks like a Barbie. It would make a really good Holiday 2 where they get to the wedding (via a few mishaps).

kindlyensure · 22/12/2024 20:55

Ah, I must have missed that (I've only seen it like a million times 😂)

Yeh I just watched it tonight and he said they were with his parents for the weekend .

NotYourSaviour · 22/12/2024 21:53

Yes, I get that Jack's character wasn't supposed to be your typical "handsome good guy" and was the antithesis to Rufus Sewell (Jasper?).

I think that what I mean by miscast is that Jack has a particular style and charisma that lends itself to more physical, comedic roles - he has great timing and is very funny, but the whimsical, lingering-look moments don't suit him, and I think his discomfort comes across.

I'm trying to think of well known actors who can be humorous but are also accustomed to a bit of deep/meaningful love action at Diaz/Winslet level...Benn Stiller, Tom Hanks, Woody Harrelson, Steve Carrell, Chris Pratt, Paul Rudd? Will Ferrell?

Anyway. I'm not being mean to Jack Black, I just thought it wasn't a great fit! I'm sure he's reading MN posts about himself all the way to the bank 🤣

What bugs me is that he’s a book editor and has a massive, beautiful home. Not on that salary he wouldn’t!

But we don't know this wife did?

Izzy24 · 22/12/2024 21:56

I will never understand how this film is with watching ever. I was forced to watch it once.

That was filmed in in Godalming, where DH and I both worked at the time - hence our love of the film! It was in a little deli in the high Street. And the pub scenes were in the next village (grasping but can no longer remember the name, but I have been in the pub).

Oh...it might be Shere.

Izzy24 · 22/12/2024 21:57

Worth not with !

Worth not with !

To be fair, watching it now I find it toe-curling in places, but it was of its time.

I do have to leave the room for the dancing in the final scene. Ick.

Fantina · 22/12/2024 22:07

The entire film makes me cringe and did at the time, I bet Kate Winslet cannot bear to watch this one back. Especially when she is so excited to get to Cameron’s place.

Mirabai · 22/12/2024 22:07

I’ve never been able to watch it because of Jack Black.

Mirabai · 22/12/2024 22:08

(I am being mean to Jack Black)

Toomuchleopard · 22/12/2024 22:09

I always think Kate Winslet’s character is so lonely and her brother is on his own with the kids. Surely they would just live together instead of separately and both struggling.

Ooh Paul Rudd would have been great.

It is an extremely cringe film, especially the cheesy Kate Winslet and Jack Black scenes, but hey it's a silly Hallmark type Christmas film to be enjoyed for what it is.

Yes he looks staring and like a bad actor. He does suit other roles usually.

Yes, I think I mean this, with the 'we have no girls in our house' comment. Like, where's the aunty? Does she never visit? Yet also happy to facilitate her brother's drunken overnight stays when he crashes at hers if he gets too drunk to go home. So does that mean Granny stays on the off-chance?

Plus, at the end when he's on the doorstep saying goodbye to Cameron (kids with granny again I suppose) and it's freezing out and he's just in a shirt. I would have liked to have seen a nice chunky jumper there.

MrJollyLivesNextDoor · 22/12/2024 22:32

I always watch this film even though it annoys me 🤣

The film over voice in her head
Jack Black in the video shop
Jude Law pretend crying
Cameron Diaz running up the lane in 4" stilettos

But most of all

Scroodlidoo Froodlidoo

creamsnugjumper · 22/12/2024 22:35

I've just watched it on my laptop and whizzed past the Kate and Jack parts and realised its way more LA storyline than UK.

I'd say 70%.. clearly I was only scrolling to watch the Jude parts 🤣
