When Jude Law's character Graham is getting calls from Sophie and Olivia. What dcs that age would have phones? It proper niggled me.

I probably thought it last time I watched but noticed it more so tonight.

Apart from that I love it. Those dcs are so cute. And when they're in the bed tent, adorable ❤️

I will never understand how this film is with watching ever. I was forced to watch it once.

I’ve tried to watch it twice and never made it to the end.

claudiawinklemansfringetrimmer · 22/12/2024 22:56

I really like Jack Black in that film, not my type usually but I think he does loveable doof well (and I prefer that to the smoothness of Jude Law)

nicslackey1 · 22/12/2024 22:57

Just watched it for the first and last time and was very annoyed at the dog being overlooked every time Cameron Diaz packed and left. Who was feeding and walking it? I may have missed something as I was decorating the tree at the time and had a couple of sherries, needed to get me through this. The Cameron Diaz character was so cringe 🤮

BourbonsAreOverated · 22/12/2024 23:01

Didn’t they imply those country houses were in London?

Bloom15 · 23/12/2024 13:57

Haven't watched it this year as me and DH agreed that we hate-watch it. The bit at the end is so cringey. I love that Sam Cooke song too but it has been ruined

marmiteloversunite · 23/12/2024 18:07

I always wonder how Cameron packed so many winter coats, boots and outfits in her suitcase?! She has a different coat for most scenes. Bugs me.

PheasantPluckers · 23/12/2024 18:11

NotYourSaviour · 22/12/2024 20:40

Good point. I was just typing a response to say it would have been his MIL or DM calling, or childminder etc. But then why would the names come up separately on his phone...

Ah well. Do you know what always bugged me the most about The Holiday - how Jack Black (bless 'im) was so horribly miscast as a joint romantic lead. He's a great actor but (imo) this was all wrong for him - Kate Winslet is fabulous and manage to draw up some chemistry with his character from deep down in her shoes somewhere, but he seemed all wrong to me. There must have been a hundred other US actors to cast instead!

Yes!! Jack Black's facial expression are downright creepy in this film 🤣

TooManyCupsAndMugs · 23/12/2024 18:18

Apparently the interior cottage scenes (Kate Winslet character's house) were shot in a studio as they couldn't find a suitable house! I love this movie though - Jude Law is soooo cute

mnahmnah · 23/12/2024 18:26

@marmiteloversunite and why would she own so many winter coats when she lives in LA?

@Renohouse I’m English but have always noticed the flag thing! It’s one of my bugbears with American films. It happens so often.

Overthinking22 · 23/12/2024 18:39

I struggle with the timeline in this one? When do they have Xmas and do they all fall in love in the space of two weeks?

Redcrayons · 23/12/2024 18:40

You’re all overthinking it, it doesn’t stand up to any kind of scrutiny as It’s meant to be enjoyed slightly tipsy on the Christmas booze, with a sugar high from the Christmas chocs.

Also Jude Law is so dreamy.

LushLemonTart · 22/12/2024 21:33

There's still snow on the ground yet the driver can get to the cottage near the end.

Plus Cameron runs through the snow near the end of the film and doesnt slip over or worry about slipping over

OldFish · 22/12/2024 21:10

I watched this (again) the other day and suddenly noticed a glaring error. When Graham gives Cameron Diaz a lift in his car, there are no child seats or child stuff in it! No crisps mashed into the seats or wellies in the footwells.

Yoh didn't have child seats for kids that age then and not all people have wellies or leave thier cars in a state.

Spirallingdownwards · 23/12/2024 19:02

however it is still a gazillion times better a film than Love Actually.

Littletinytarzanswingingfromanosehair · 23/12/2024 19:15

My cringe bit is Kate Winslet facial expressions playing air guitar.
How Iris didn't tell Graham she was off to LA for Xmas or are they really not that close?

Iris being an absolute lapdog for Jasper, buying him a first edition novel when she knows she's his bit on the side as he's dating someone else.

"Well hello big dollop"
"I need corny in my life"

The film is cringe but I do actually adore it honestly 🤣

He is lush in it.

Has anyone mentioned the fact that Graham has sex in his sister's bed? 🤢

Nikitaspearlearring · 23/12/2024 21:44

I think they missed a trick in the scene when Cameron's driving the car and is struggling with the gear stick. Doesn't she speak to someone? She could've said "Am I in the right gear?" and had a reply along the lines of "You might need a scarf as well"!

saltandvinegarchipsticks · 23/12/2024 22:34

Fantina · 22/12/2024 22:07

The entire film makes me cringe and did at the time, I bet Kate Winslet cannot bear to watch this one back. Especially when she is so excited to get to Cameron’s place.

I am cooking an enormous ham for Boxing Day this year to serve 14 people, and Kate Winslet’s acting was at least six times hammier than my ham. The fake crying near the start is the worst bit.

Buzyizzy21 · 23/12/2024 22:37

Very old? 🙄 It’s 2006!

Choice4567 · 23/12/2024 22:46

@Buzyizzy21 yes. Which, I'm afraid, makes it very old!

I want to know who is looking after the kids when Jude is on his nights out/the pub/crashing on his sister's sofa/taking Cameron to the pub. Because when Cameron comes to the house, one of the kids say something like 'we never have girls here'.

So who is the Nanny? And if mummy has died, wouldn't you think aunty (ie Kate Winslet) would be round the house a lot. And yet, it seems not....

That's what bugs me about that movie!

I thought exactly this- as if Kate winslet wouldn't be an awesome auntie!

DottyDodger · 24/12/2024 01:31

It's a real cringefest. I agree about JB - he makes my toes curl throughout. In fact, Kate Winslet also makes me feel awkward in most of her scenes, and I like her in it. I don't like the old man storyline and I hate the song JB creates for him - the whole thing makes me shudder.

WHY IS IT MY FAVORITE CHRISTMAS FILM?! 🙈

sadmillenial · 29/12/2024 09:43

cameron Diaz's acting in the first bit, when she's breaking up with her bf, is possibly the worst ive ever seen in a proper big budget movie
the whole "stress makes women's faces haggard" - just unbearably cringe
