It's on Amazon Prime. I've waited years to rewatch. Dd came back from uni and we watched it together. She loved it. I loved it.

There's lots wrong with it but somehow it doesn't matter.

She guessed that it was Andrew McCarthy that I fancied.

Anyone else reliving their youth?

Just googled About Last Night and can't figure out if I've seen it.

Excellent. Going to add it to the others mentioned here that I haven't seen in a good few years.

Both my kids love The Breakfast Club so I've seen it recently.

I'm a bit young to have seen these films at the cinema, we'd rent them from Azad or Blockbuster video store and watch with friends. In the early 90's. I was explaining wistfully to dd last night.

My favourite brat pack film, full of really good performances and scenes. I loved it when Wendy finally got with Billy and the scene where Jules breaks down with Billy.

Oxford Blues

Rob Lowe was just gorgeous. I really liked him in the West Wing too.

He was great in Brothers and Sisters

Me too @Aussiegirls but almost impossible to find anywhere to watch. Might see if I can find them on DVD.

I am saving this tread-so many I loved.

Does anyone remember Mystic Pizza?

Chimchar · 11/02/2024 16:38

I loved Mystic Pizza!

St Elmo's Fire was my teenage film and soundtrack.
I wanted to be Demi Moore and thought I might die if I didn't get with Rob Lowe.

I'm afraid to watch it in case it's not as amazing as I remember. 🥹

I also loved the Outsiders and fancied most of the actors in it. 🫣😂

I read Less than Zero when I was a teen, and although it was nothing like the book, I loved the film with Andrew Mccarthy, then when Brett Easton Ellis wrote the followup of the characters in their 40's Andrew Mccarthy voiced the Audiobook. The story is horrific but his voice is just...... Ufffff.

I have hoped for years they'd make a movie of the second book, Imperial Bedrooms and have him star again, with Robert Downey Jr and James Spader.

Will definitely watch St Elmos Fire tonight. Loved the 80s when they'd cram the entire story into a power ballad at the beginning. 😅

Edited

As I'm SO old I have them on DVD!!!!!! I absolutely love Dianne Lane. Tex very realistic, Rumble Fish I found quite dark as a teenager🤔

I am surprised that as a teen I thought Mare Winnegham’s character was dowdy and dull and now she seems so beautiful! And Demi Moore so much less beautiful than my young mind had made her out to be. Is it the dominant aesthetics changing or just me getting old, I don’t know.

Fucking hell though the camera loves Rob Lowe, man he was beautiful, I never really appreciated it.

Purpleandredandyellow · 20/02/2024 07:51

Andrew McCarthys autobiography "brat" is great!!

Purpleandredandyellow · 20/02/2024 07:52

Loved James Spader - totally gave me the bad boy obsession in my teens that it took til my 30s to break!!

Yep, same. He completely carried Pretty in Pink, he was mesmerising as a young actor.

Me too, I really wanted to be the blonde girlfriend in Pretty in pink !!

westisbest1982 · 20/02/2024 11:31

He was very sexy in Pretty in Pink, also in Sex, Lies and Videotape.

Fraaahnces · 20/02/2024 11:34

Now I have the song as an earworm burying itself into my brain. Gotta love the Bratpack movies!

REP22 · 20/02/2024 11:37

I spent a small fortune hiring and rehiring Mannequin from the local video hire shop because I utterly loved Andrew McCarthy...

Overtheatlantic · 20/02/2024 11:41

I think James Spader is still sexy. His work in Boston Legal and the Blacklist is amazing.

LeatherTuscadero · 21/02/2024 00:40

Anyone who thinks James Spader is still sexy might want to watch him spanking Maggie Gyllenhall in Secretary. That is a great marmite film.

’About Last Night’ is based on the David Mamet play ‘Sexual Perversity in Chicago’, I believe. Matthew Perry was over here in one of the West End productions of that about 20 years ago.

TheFormidableMrsC · 21/02/2024 00:52

I'd love to see it again 🥰

lollipoprainbow · 21/02/2024 04:59

James Spader was also in white palace a great film with Susan sarrendon as his older girlfriend.

westisbest1982 · 21/02/2024 07:56

I’ve never known anyone else who’s seen White Palace! It’s a gem of a film and easily streamable in Prime and the like.
