It's on Amazon Prime. I've waited years to rewatch. Dd came back from uni and we watched it together. She loved it. I loved it.

There's lots wrong with it but somehow it doesn't matter.

She guessed that it was Andrew McCarthy that I fancied.

Anyone else reliving their youth?

I loved that film so much I bought it on DVD when in a bargain bin when I was an adult. I lent it to a young 20 ish colleague one time and I was so disappointed that she didn’t love it too.

Awrite · 10/02/2024 23:45

Yeah, it was panned by the critics too. Must be a marmite film.

I love it
I've got the DVD
And Andrew McCarthy is even more gorgeous now and has beautiful hands

Ursulla · 11/02/2024 00:37

I loved it at the time but haven't seen it in years. From what I remember it captured that young adulthood feeling of having limitless energy and possibilities simultaneously thrown by not quite knowing who you are really well, while still being corny as all get-out.

I also have the dvd but I might watch it on Prime. I love that movie, but remember watching it with one of my dd's and she wasn't overly impressed, the other dd however loved it too 🤷🏼‍♀️

TicketyBoo11 · 11/02/2024 00:59

One of my favourites..that and Pretty in Pink 🙌

AliceMcK · 11/02/2024 01:00

One of my all time favourites, BIG Brat Pack fan A BUGA BUGA BUGA!

Emilio Estaves for me closely followed by Rob Low hhhmmmmm

Ursulla · 11/02/2024 01:17

Rob Lowe was an arsehole in that film and also a terrible actor. However he has aged v well.

TitsInAbsentia · 11/02/2024 01:21

Pretty in Pink and the Breakfast Club are better, imo.

XFiler · 11/02/2024 01:23

St Elmo’s fire
pretty in pink
breakfast club
my teen dds love them all as well

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 11/02/2024 01:42

I'll be watching tomorrow for the umpteenth time, thank you !

DreamingInPhosphorescence · 11/02/2024 01:44

I love St Elmo’s Fire, but The Breakfast Club narrowly beats it for me. And yes to Andrew McCarthy!

apapuchi · 11/02/2024 01:46

Thank you for the info, I haven't seen this film in eons. It's going to be a treat whether it's how I remember it or not. Theme song is a classic ☺️

catin8oots · 11/02/2024 01:52

Such a good movie

Strokethefurrywall · 11/02/2024 01:58

St Elmo's fire was the pinnacle of 80s brat pack movies, I love that movie!!

Rob Lowe was the most beautiful actor of his generation (and many generations after actually!)

Totally going to rewatch tomorrow now.

lollipoprainbow · 11/02/2024 02:39

Yes adore it ! Along with all the other brat pack films , the breakfast club, pretty in pink, about last night, class.

True 80's girl here

Propertylover · 11/02/2024 03:06

I would add Class & The Outsiders to the list.

HoweverWeare · 11/02/2024 03:46

Oh thanks so much, I would’ve never watched it and I am looking forward to watching it tomorrow. 😚

One of my nostalgic favourites, completely rubbish film but still the best.

Breakfast Club is better but I haven’t seen St Elmo’s fire in at least 15 years.

I mean...

St Elmo's Fire
MrsJamin · 11/02/2024 03:59

Ah the 80s, when stalking was romantic! Emilio Estevez's character was so blummin creepy. I agree with others that the breakfast club and pretty in pink were better.

I was desperate to look like Demi Moore! I couldn't have been any less like her.
