How can I get my 6ft, 14 year old son in to a fifteen certificated film at the cinema?

Some ideas others have come up-

Make him non-binary or disabled, people will not have the brass-neck to question his identity.

Slip the person a tenner.

Give him a fake beard a mask to put on?

@Hannahsbananas doesnt matter - they’ll still check. My 15 yr old, 5 ft 11 DS had to have ID. He used an app where he could scan his passport.

Or take his passport. A citizenship card is much cheaper than a passport if he hasn't got one already.

All that will prove is that he’s not actually 15 😂

Stressyfab · 03/08/2023 22:06

Contour him some cheekbones?

His passport won’t gain him access to a 15 rated film if he is only 14

If it is Oppenheimer you might not want to watch with your 14 year old even if you are happy for him to see it. I don't want so sit next to DC watching nude Florence ride Cillian on the big screen.

Crikey! 😳 thanks for the warning, sounds like I should be glad of the ID crackdown!

It might if they don't bother to check it properly and you brandish it with confidence

DivingForLove · 03/08/2023 22:07

@CatsSnore but if he’s too young that won’t help?

historyrepeatz · 03/08/2023 22:07

@ProudThrilledHappy it's a shame as it's only a couple of minutes out of the three hours.

Tetchypants · 03/08/2023 22:07

False beard. Big bushy one.

backtogrey · 03/08/2023 22:07

Take your chances and if he gets chaallenged, tough shit as he is 14🤷‍♀️

DivingForLove · 03/08/2023 22:09

@greenteaandmarshmallows but they will check it. I don’t get the desperation to piss the cinema staff off. They get a lot of abuse over it - my DS said the member of staff who asked him for his ID sounded really nervous.

Why not just accept he has to wait?

ProudThrilledHappy · 03/08/2023 22:10

I looked again to see if I was mistaken, they do state ID will be checked sadly

Seriously..... You just walk in.... On online tickets

DivingForLove · 03/08/2023 22:11

@CombatBarbie no. You don’t. You don’t just walk in. They check ID. On line tickets make no différence whatsoever 🤦‍♀️.

MillicentTrilbyHiggins · 03/08/2023 22:11

My dS and his friends wanted to see something recently that was an 18 I think. Might have been a 15. Either way they didn't have iD and were asked when they tried to buy the tickets. So they ordered them online. Luckily they weren't IDd going in because I doubt they'd have got a refund.

Will they actually check the date or will they go ah ok passport photo yup in you go

DivingForLove · 03/08/2023 22:12

@MillicentTrilbyHiggins they were very lucky. My DS bought his ticket on line but was still asked for ID and saw others turned away without it. And you’re right - they won’t get a refund.

CatsSnore · 03/08/2023 22:12

Sorry didn't see he was 14!! Fail!!

My ds is 16 now, I was taking him to see 15s at 13 and now have been sent away from the cinema even though he's now 16! Super super annoying! It's not a drink and if they're with their mums I can't see why they have started being so petty about guideline ages!!

DivingForLove · 03/08/2023 22:13

@greenteaandmarshmallows they checked the date! They don’t just want to see you have a passport 😂

fruitstick · 03/08/2023 22:13

DS is 14 and 6ft. He's been to see Oppenheimer twice, both times with an adult in different cinemas in different towns.

ID never been asked for but I suppose they could.

Yes I know technically they want to see the date I just wondered if they actually did or if you did it with enough confidence they'd assume it was ok

DivingForLove · 03/08/2023 22:14

@fruitstick being with an adult is irrelevant - it’s not “15 unless you’re with an adult”. The local cinemas are us are all very strict and no ID means no entry and no refund.

DivingForLove · 03/08/2023 22:15

@greenteaandmarshmallows they checked very specifically that his date was correct. And that of each of his friends.

deplorabelle · 03/08/2023 22:15

We got our 14 year old in. Online tickets, one person checking tickets for all screens on first day of the school holidays chucking down with rain. In retrospect we were always going to manage it but we were quite worried at the time.

If you can afford to lose the money I'd try it. The nudity was not particularly prolonged or excessive IMO but then we watch a lot of German films and they are quite keen on gratuitous tits when you least expect them.

I know. I told him at the time it was risky!

This thread has reminded me of the time I went to the cinema when I was first dating a now ex. I was 17 and at college. We bought our tickets, I showed my college ID/NUS card to get the student rate. Went in. Sat down. Film certification came up, it was an 18. I felt like a criminal Blush
