If you are fan of the show give it a swerve. I caught a little bit of Mark Kaermode’s review and he said it’s boring and I could not agree more. It’s like they took everything about Luther that made it a must watch and then highly sanitised it and what is left is just a run of the mill police show with a pantomime villain and a little bit of wanna be Bond thrown in. If they were going to go down the film route then they should have picked one of the better episodes and expanded it to make it for a film. Such a disappointment and poor use of good actors.

It was very far fetched

justmyluck1234 · 12/03/2023 15:50

I did watch the series but tbh I don't remember too much of it. I watched the film yesterday and thought it was worth the watch.

LaurieFairyCake · 12/03/2023 15:51

Thought the film was really enjoyable

BeetleyCarapace · 12/03/2023 15:52

Luther’s always been far-fetched though, hasn’t it? I mean… in the TV show he was mates with a literal serial killer.

I do agree to a point though. The film isn’t anyone’s best work. I don’t understand why people keep casting Andy Serkis as a human. He’s great at mocap stuff but chews the scenery something rotten when he isn’t CGI’d.

Battlecat98 · 12/03/2023 15:52

I enjoyed it until the end where it became a bit ridiculous.

GordonBennett345 · 12/03/2023 16:26

Crock o' shite.

hattie43 · 12/03/2023 16:41

I watched it last night and was rather underwhelmed tbh . Also agree it was very far fetched . Such a disappointment after the series .

BG2015 · 12/03/2023 19:23

How did the police divers know he was under the water?

softsweets · 12/03/2023 19:43

I LOVED it! #easilypleased

Bearpawk · 12/03/2023 21:38

Amazing how the helicopter just turned up with divers ....
How many stab wounds he can walk away from b?
Anyone else think he was being announced as 007 at the end ?

ÉireannachÉÉÉÉÉÉÉÉÉÉÉÉ · 12/03/2023 21:40

I enjoyed it at the end, ya know, cos it ended.

Tuilpmouse · 13/03/2023 23:03

Maybe I'm just a delicate flower, but I thought the content was sufficiently disturbing for this to be an 18.

There are plenty of 15 films that I would be absolutely fine with my nearly 15 year DD watching, but definitely not this. It wasn't full on horror, of course, but the extremely dark and disturbing content was potentially far more distressing than the inclusion of more graphic of scenes would have been (which would likely have tipped into it an 18.)

Niftythrifter · 14/03/2023 07:40

@Bearpawk that’s my point in terms of J Bond, the driving in the snow etc just reminded me of a Bond film like it was a villains evil lair they were going to.

I missed Alice.

Endofmytetherfinally · 14/03/2023 07:42

Boring AF but to be honest I think the TV series was overrated and never got the Alice fascination. Luther has always been obsessed with weirdly violent serial killers and odd sexual predilections.

AlisonDonut · 14/03/2023 07:45

It was absolute pants! Bad acting, really bad continuity and such a shite storyline.

EmptyPlaces · 14/03/2023 07:46

I missed Alice.

I watch for Alice as much as Luther, so I completely agree Grin

WednesdaysPlaits · 14/03/2023 07:47

I thought it was good. Andy Serkis's "hair" was way too distracting though.

Definitely too much for a 15.

Alice is probably the Boss

MrsElijahMikaelson1 · 14/03/2023 07:53

I thought it was ok.

The hair was terrifying

i also thought the 007 thing was clear-what do people drink here…martini sir…No, I’ll have a glass of water!

BG2015 · 14/03/2023 12:46

Couldn't stand the Alice story line

grayhairdontcare · 14/03/2023 12:49

I expected it to be shite( it was) but I still enjoyed it 😃

NotLovingWFH · 14/03/2023 12:51

So glad I’ve seen this thread. Have heard lots of people saying how amazing it was etc and I’ve wondered if I watched something different by mistake. I thought it was boring, far fetched and Idris Elba wasn’t anywhere near as good as before and I loved all the Luther series. Have seen some cracking police dramas this year and this wasn’t one of them.

LouisCatorze · 14/03/2023 12:53

It underwhelmed me. I agree that it was disturbing (there was something of Black Mirror about it), in a way that I tolerated much better over the course of the seasons of the series.

It was definitely missing something without the Alice: Luther dynamic.

GenuinelyDone · 14/03/2023 13:16

I couldn't really get to grips with Andy Serkis' character. He's played a villain in the Marvel films quite well so was disappointed with his weird hair creation. I still don't understand why he was singing "I'm coming out".

It really did play like a bond film, from improbable mass brawls with barely a scratch through to the snowy ice lair no one knows about but the Norwegian authorities are happy to let UK authorities descend upon...with frogmen.

Although the martini line to me felt like Elba was acknowledging the Bond rumours and confirming he'd been snubbed by asking for a glass of water.

It just didn't live up to what they'd created with Luther's story arc...but was still OK to watch. I've definitely seen worse.
