Okay hive mind, show me what you can do!
I think the quote is from an old British movie -

"Everyone's been terribly, terribly kind..."

Possibly a classic male British actor? Anyone got any suggestions? It's driving me MAD! 😬

@SurpriseSurprise I hear it in Alec Guiness's voice too somehow, can you think what film it might be?

I put the quote into quodb.com and it comes up with loads of movies. Have a look it might jog your memory.

Kind hearts and coronets? That's a complete guess though 😩

VenusInfers · 23/09/2022 19:39

@willingtolearn can you think which John Hurt movie that was? He's got the right kind of voice...

@DoIHaveTooo I did try that, but the full quote doesn't bring any results, sadly. 😕

When you said that I thought Bobby’s birthday scene where she thanks everyone? But just watched that scene on YouTube and it’s not that bit

I thought Bobby, but when they give Mr Perks all the presents from the neighbours on his birthday.

gettingoldtoquick · 23/09/2022 19:44

It's from the tyrell's crisp advert.

Coldhandscoldheart · 23/09/2022 19:46

There’s a clip of Audrey Hepburn getting ? An Oscar when she says something like this.

ThePerfectCircle · 23/09/2022 19:50

Is it from The Ladykillers?

ThePerfectCircle · 23/09/2022 19:51

(Old Alec Guinness film from the 1950s). I think it’s the little old lady.

willingtolearn · 23/09/2022 19:53

I'm not sure and now I think it's actually Anthony Hopkins so I'm frankly useless

IthinkIsawahairbrushbackthere · 23/09/2022 19:55

My first thought was the Tyrells crisps advert but they are "Tyrrellbly tyrrerllbly tasty."

Edwardandtubbs · 23/09/2022 19:56

It's from The Elephant Man which I believe is John Hurt. OH and I say it to each other all the time!

VenusInfers · 23/09/2022 19:56

@gettingoldtoquick Ha ha! Great advert, but sadly but not a chap and not quite the right word. Accent was simply spiffing though!

@Tinkerbellflowers Some great quotes in that scene, but sadly not what I'm looking for. Really think it was a man's voice.

@Edwardandtubbs Oh my god! this sounds so right! Just going on YouTube....

OP posts:
willingtolearn · 23/09/2022 20:02

@Edwardandtubbs has got it - it's this :
MERRICK Everyone has been very kind. I am extremely grateful.

VenusInfers · 23/09/2022 20:05

Argh@Edwardandtubbs I can't find that quote, but it feels so right!!!!

OP posts:
VenusInfers · 23/09/2022 20:06

@willingtolearn which scene is that in, please?

AnImaginaryCat · 23/09/2022 20:07

Makes me picture an older gay man, RP accent who's had a horrible time and is upset.

No idea why!!

DisforDarkChocolate · 23/09/2022 20:08

I hear Cary Grant.

Vertigo?

AuntieDolly · 23/09/2022 20:09

I keep thinking of David Niven in "Separate Tables"

VenusInfers · 23/09/2022 20:10

Ah, I've got to go out for a while to collect my son from Scouts. I shall return - looks like we're getting close to a solution!!

😀

Anna Neagle Florence nightingale The Lady with the lamp.
it jumped straight at me. It’s right at the end after being given a medal from the king.
