Okay hive mind, show me what you can do!
I think the quote is from an old British movie -

"Everyone's been terribly, terribly kind..."

Possibly a classic male British actor? Anyone got any suggestions? It's driving me MAD! 😬

Not certain, but I'm hearing it in Paddington's voice. Would that make sense?

Everylittlethingsgonnabealright · 23/09/2022 19:05

For some reason I read it to myself in a sort of Received Pronunciation - the Queen type accent but I don’t know why or if it’s ringing a bell for me! Do you know how it’s said, or who says it - make/female?

Everylittlethingsgonnabealright · 23/09/2022 19:05

Haha - cross post with Paddington!

Violettaa · 23/09/2022 19:06

Similar on RP - I was thinking Brief Encounter.

Saucery · 23/09/2022 19:06

A Private Function? I’m hearing it in Maggie Smith’s character’s voice though. #planningatrifle

Plantstrees · 23/09/2022 19:06

Yes to Paddington!

Everylittlethingsgonnabealright · 23/09/2022 19:06

God, and missed that you said male already - sorry 🙄

Robin233 · 23/09/2022 19:07

It's a wonderful life ??

VenusInfers · 23/09/2022 19:08

I think it's a male voice. Paddington is a good shout - but thought it was older than that.

Doing this research for my chum - will see what he thinks!

Yes, @Everylittlethingsgonnabealright RP type voice was in his head. He wants to find the quote to use in a music project.

This sounds familiar tbh

generalh · 23/09/2022 19:12

Railway children?

VenusInfers · 23/09/2022 19:12

I don't want to say who he thought it was as might skew people John LeMeasurer or someone like that

ballstomonty · 23/09/2022 19:13

Until you said male I thought Helena Bonham-Carter in A Room With A View

VenusInfers · 23/09/2022 19:16

Ah, @ballstomonty such a great film! But don't think that's one of her lines.

generalh · 23/09/2022 19:12

Railway children?

When you said that I thought Bobby’s birthday scene where she thanks everyone? But just watched that scene on YouTube and it’s not that bit

Carrieonmywaywardsun · 23/09/2022 19:27

I'm reading it in Hugh Grant's voice

JennyForeigner · 23/09/2022 19:29

I think it's Brief Encounter too. One of the totes emosh scenes where she says goodbye to him forever or similar.

willingtolearn · 23/09/2022 19:31

John Hurt - "Everyone has been so terribly kind"??

NellesVilla · 23/09/2022 19:32

Hilary and Jackie?

Sounds like a Celia Imrie quote. Defo an English accent…

SurpriseSurprise · 23/09/2022 19:33

Didn’t Paddington say it in one of his letters to Aunt Lucy?

DoIHaveTooo · 23/09/2022 19:34

Alec guiness? In one of his posh british films, not star wars 😆

CosmopolitanPlease · 23/09/2022 19:34

I think it might be Ralph Fiennes in The Grand Budapest Hotel, when he goes to prison?

VenusInfers · 23/09/2022 19:36

@JennyForeigner and @Violettaa Just looked at a load of Brief Encounter quotes. It's the right kind of 'style' of speech, but they don't seem to use those words. Darn it....

Gussie Finknottle says it in Bertie Wooster…The series with Hugh Laurie.
Probably a fairly common phrase though ?
